Hubby doesn't like name

So I love the name Mila, I love it so much I can't think of any other names at all.
My husband doesn't love it but he said if I really want it, it's fine.

Really we should find a name we both love but I honestly can't see past this one.

He likes Chloe (nope) Maddison (my friends daughters name) and Millie - which I said he could call Mila!

What do you think?

She's not coming till September but I'm a little bit obsessed with this name

Thank you so much, so helpful x

I did think maybe Russian as I think Mila Jovovich is from Russia.

Yes, that's how I'd pronounce it. Technically in Polish and Russian it would be "mee-LEH-nah" but "mil-LAY-nah" as you're pronouncing it is a completely valid pronunciation in an English speaking country.

Penguin34 · 22/04/2018 08:27

@trueblueari do you pronounce it Mil-Lane-na? I would imagine so.

I don't have any polish friends to ask, Hungarian and Czech but not polish x

Yes Mila short for Milena, you're right. It is lovely x
I've never heard of another Mila either.

I'm so glad I brought this up because he may like milena xx

Thank you x

I don't know of a single Mila! It's obviously not as popular round here as it is elsewhere?!

I love the suggestion of Milena!

trueblueari · 21/04/2018 23:58

I'm from a Polish family and Milena is a very popular Polish name. Not pretentious at all - but still unusual in this country, and (in my opinion) very pretty. Good luck convincing your husband!

Penguin34 · 21/04/2018 23:53

@trueblueari
Yes I thought exactly the same, one of my clients looked up what Mila was short for and told me so I'm going to bring it up next time we talk about it.
I have a feeling he will say it's pretentious but we shall see.
Thanks for reminding me x

'I think woman only births are the best I had 2 women and 2 midwives but I am a single mum. Obviously it's a complete personal choice!'

I was my other friends birthing parter for her 3rd baby (she has 4) and she says exactly the same thing.
She says it was her favourite birth.
I thought it was a lovely experience as well

Good for you! Yours sounds lovely xxx

@chezmk1988
I've always liked not having an English name (it's Italian) funnily enough the only time I've met someone with my name is Italy.

I did always miss out on having my name on a key ring/pen/headband as a little girl tho.
I do still moan about that though so my hubs had a bottle of coke made with my name on 💗

@Ragusa

Good suggestion re 10 make deadline tho I might make it 5.

Those names are lovely but my cousins two are Lily and Layla - couldn't really be any closer.

Ragusa · 21/04/2018 23:24

Lilah/ Lila, is nice and a bit less à la mode.

Sounds like he cant be bothered to do the hardd work thinking/ researching but just wants to have the final say. So.. maybe you need to give hima deadline to come up with 10 new suggestions and if he doesn't you get to go with the name you like.

Penguin34 · 21/04/2018 23:23

@ibicus I'm thinking that that's why my husband has this approach to it to be honest .
He's said he'll be at the birth of our child if I want him/need him there 100% - not that he wants to be there so my best friend is going to be there. Subject to change obviously.

Jeez sometimes I think he's 70 not 50!

We are very much in love and happy just in case anyone thinks it doesn't look that way!

I had no idea Mila kunis was having a moment - so out of the loop!

I saw the name on a baby name app

OP posts:
ibicus · 21/04/2018 23:17

I would personally just go with the name YOU want. You went through pregnancy and will go through birth and probably be it's life/food source and main carer! X

Penguin34 · 21/04/2018 23:13

Every single name I have come up with he doesn't like any of them.

Mary, Misty, Myla, Moya, Mina, Meg, Meadow, Marian, Margery?!

Penguin34 · 21/04/2018 23:12

I actually wouldn't mind Chloe if I didn't have 2 friends with the name

OP posts:
RebeccaCloud9 · 21/04/2018 23:11

Mila kunis is meela not mile a or milla so there's already 2 mispronunciations she could get. I think it's pretty though. But like a pp said, you have plenty of time to find a name you both love - try to be open minded!

Penguin34 · 21/04/2018 23:11

@HappyLollipop

Thank you Hun.
He was the name with the dogs name I chose - hated it, and now loves it!

He's actually the same with everything - holiday destinations, places to do, even getting married!

Doesn't want to make a decision, so I do, he hates it and then he absolutely loves it after haha!

To be fair he chose us a new house then just told me we were moving!
Got to say I bloody love the house tho

I like Mila but only because I love the actress Mila Kunis. I would never use it as a name for a baby as it’s become too popular and reminds me now of all the children that were named Jordan when Katie price was Jordan in her early fame.

Penguin34 · 21/04/2018 23:07

@Sophronia I've always like Mia but it seems so has everyone else lately.
I must have about 7 or 8 clients with a little one called Mia.
I mentioned maya but he said it sounds too like MYA the cosmetic surgery company - I don't think it does but hey ho
