Hubby doesn't like name

So I love the name Mila, I love it so much I can't think of any other names at all.
My husband doesn't love it but he said if I really want it, it's fine.

Really we should find a name we both love but I honestly can't see past this one.

He likes Chloe (nope) Maddison (my friends daughters name) and Millie - which I said he could call Mila!

What do you think?

She's not coming till September but I'm a little bit obsessed with this name

Also Frederik Eklund from Million Dollar Listing has called his daughter Mila and also there is the Mila who does all the cutsie American youtube videos so it will become more common a name I reckon.

If he would still go with it then I'd crack on! Let him choose the middle name, this is what we did with DC2. You might never find a name you both love 100%.

We changed our minds several times over the course of my pregnancies. I'd suggest keeping it in mind but keep looking out for something you both love. We thought we'd decided then we saw a woman on the news with a name that we both instantly loved so changed our mind.

I love the Eastern European name Malina - I think it's really beautiful, and you could have Mila or Mina or Lina or Mia or Mali or Lia or others as a nickname from it!

I picked both my daughters names as my husband wasn’t trying at all to think of any others! He wasn’t 100% happy with either but that’s tough! Ideally you would choose something together obviously.

I know a little girl called Mila-Mae and think it's adorable. I'd have used it for a girl but went for Milo instead

DH recently admitted he wasn’t that keen on the name we chose for DD1. I had no idea at the time. He said he loves it now so perhaps that’s what will happen with your OH?

I love Mila, pronounced Mee-la as others have said. My understanding is that it's a suffix or shortening of various Slavic names. The woman I know comes from a Czech family. It can get easily confused with Mia though when spoken.

I couldn't imagine another name for my DD, I'd wanted it since I was a teen. The first time I told him he said it was awful. but I talked about why it was so wonderful and in the end he could see why I loved it.

I'd fight for what you love and fight to make him see a middle name he likes is a good idea

Oh sorry I though it was pronounced Myla, I know a Myla spelt 'Mila'. Not as keen on Mila pronounced Mee-la.

I would personally keep looking for a name you both love. Surely you don’t want to call your baby something you know your DP doesn’t like?

Look at names in the paper, names in books, names in the credits after TV programmes, names in TV programmes etc.

I like Mila. It's a gorgeous name, and Millie can for sure be used as a nn imo. Another option could be Milena (with Mila/Millie as a nn).

Otherwise, you have plenty of time to try find something you are both head over heels for. Ask him to give you a long list of names he likes and go from there. Good luck :)

I still love Milena, and I don't know how you could mispronounce it, but I do agree with Dozer's comment about names of people you know.
The name I wanted for DD (before XH vetoed it) was Julianna, the name of a family friend, just because I've always loved her name. I asked her if she'd mind and she didn't at all, she likes her name and said it would be lovely.
I have a name picked out already that I want to use if I have another DD in the future and I know someone with that name too. It's not a dealbreaker for me

In the UK there will also be frequent mispronunciation of milena.

Why rule out names (chloe, lily, layla) because people you know have the name? Does that really matter if you both like it?

One of by sibling’s DC has the name of one of our cousins because their DP loved the name (they don’t see the cousin v often anyway). A friend’s DC has the same name as a close mutual friend, again because the parents just liked the name.

And I was going to mention Milana being Mila Kunis's name. She's from the Ukraine originally! (probably why she named her son Dimitri 😍)

I've been obsessed with names throughout my pregnancy and then gone off them! And we've now settled on a name that we briefly suggested 6 months ago when we found out we were expecting! Don't worry about it too much Smile
