What do you think? To associated with the actor?

I love it, and it would be pretty cool to have your own mountain!

I thought of it but as I'm English and don't speak Welsh I decided to stay away from Welsh names and I didn't have any DSs

Everyone will think he's named after Elba though.

fabulousfrumpyfeet · 21/04/2018 07:41

I know it as an Arabic name, either way its a gorgeous name...hmmm if I have another boy i may consider it!

AppleDragon · 21/04/2018 07:39

I have an Idris - Welsh but living in England. We always get lovely comments about his name and no pronunciation issues

PotteringAlong · 21/04/2018 07:38

I have a 6 year old idris Smile

SumAndSubstance · 21/04/2018 07:36

I knew it was Welsh. I think it’s a lovely name.

Velvetbee · 20/04/2018 23:07

Know a lovely, gentle Arabic Idris, didn’t realise it was Welsh.

she326 · 20/04/2018 23:05

I think it is a beautiful name

DramaAlpaca · 20/04/2018 23:03

I think of it as an old fashioned Welsh name. It's not really my thing, but I don't hate it.

Lifeaback · 20/04/2018 23:00

I had no idea it was Welsh, always assumed it had biblical roots! I think it's a really cool name. I do think of the actor but that's not a bad connotation at all, also whilst idris elba is big I wouldn't say he's a family household name so don't think any of your sons peers will make the link

Elphabaisnotwicked · 20/04/2018 22:55

I love it but I’m not certain how it should be pronounced? I would assume eye-driss but have also heard id-ris. I’m not welsh though.

Argeles · 20/04/2018 22:54

Beautiful name!

LastNightsMakeUp · 20/04/2018 22:49

I had no idea this was a welsh name too! Regardless I like it. And the only Idriss I personally know is a fantastic singer and performer

bellanotte22 · 20/04/2018 22:42

In Wales and know a lovely Idris. Would be on my list too but doesn't suit our surname.

rainingcats · 20/04/2018 21:53

I have an Idris ! we are Welsh but live in England ... I often get asked if he is named after the actor ... have only heard positive comments about his name though

n0ne · 20/04/2018 21:46

Love!

Elemenope · 20/04/2018 21:30

Amazing to see such positive responses! Would most of you know it was Welsh?

Lovely. I know a little Idris who lives in Wales and is gorgeous, he really suits his name.

BikeRunSki · 20/04/2018 21:07

I love it. DH doesn’t, which is why it’s not ds’s name. My main association with it is the mountain Cadair Idris in mid Wales.

Moominfan · 20/04/2018 21:04

Love it. No idea it was welsh

raeray · 20/04/2018 21:01

I like the name Idris!
Have met both welsh and Arabic boys called Idris and both were lovely.

Peachbubble · 20/04/2018 20:09

Like it a lot.

Bobbybobbins · 20/04/2018 18:24

I love it! I teach a teenage Idris and know a baby Idris too

MikeUniformMike · 20/04/2018 18:12

I like it. It's unusual but not unheard of in Wales,
It is also an Arabic name.
It is easy to spell and pronounce and makes me think of an actor and ginger beer.
What's not to like?

Elemenope · 20/04/2018 18:04

I am welsh but we live in England :)

If you're in Wales it's very old fashioned and 'stuffy' if that makes sense!
