Unusual or traditional girl names with 3 or more syllables

Ruthshaw1980 · 17/04/2018 20:32

Hi all

Would very much appreciate ideas for beautiful girls names with at least 3 syllables that could be described as unusual or traditional/vintage. So far our most up to date list following some ins and outs is:

Annabelle
Arabella
Emmeline (but waiting for DH to veto this)
Elodie
Romilly
Harriet

Be as unusual as you like, I would love to hear as many suggestions as you wish to give Smile

Ruthshaw1980 does your DH like any names?

I couldn't find "the one" till DC1 was born. DP had a list of names, and eventually after he was born I decided I liked one of them, when I'd had a reason not to like it before.

Similar with DC2's name - I had reasons not to like it before she was born, but once here I could see it suited her and the reasons I didn't like it didn't seem important any more.

If he hasn't agreed any, can you do a list for your DH of names you really like and ask him to pick one when the baby comes, perhaps? Would that work for you both?

Lucia / Athena / Althea all go well with Isaac. Alicia and Isaac is hard for me to say, for some reason!

Ruthshaw1980 · 18/04/2018 00:22

Thank you, I think Neriah and Isaac work well together but is always good to get people’s opinion

Whoops forgot to include Alethea, Alicia, Athena and Lucia on my standout list above. Will discuss all these with DH tomoz

Issac and Neriah sound lovely together IMHO

Ruthshaw1980 · 17/04/2018 23:59

Thank you for such interesting and vast ideas. I wish I could comment on them all but these are the ones that stand out

Aurelia
Elianne - very pretty but worried about Elle shortening tho.
Nerissa
Neriah - this is gorgeous and biblical which I like. My son is called Isaac. Does Neriah and Isaac work? Or is that too much
Lowenna
Ilaria
Helena
Thalia
Sophia - love it but too popular
Matilda - see Sophia
Angharad - Saw this the other day when I discovered arianwen (see below). Lovely name but don’t know if I raised it with DH.

I also love these names below but previously discussed and discounted by DH

Sylvia
Eloise
Christabel

Arianwen - suggested this last weekend. Such a beautiful name. Guess what his answer was??

Lydia - criminally underused. So elegant, simple and pretty. Hoped I’d found the ‘one’ when I thought of this the other week only for DH to say no!

Priscilla

I think Arianwen is beautiful.

It's Welsh and the stress is on the AN
So, it's pronounced Ar-ee-AN-wen.

Love Romilly and Arabella

These are the most unusual I can think of but they're still probably repeats, looking at the number of suggestions you've had already:

Alyona, Adrielle, Alexandria, Asthina, Allegra, Anoushka, Adenike, Averil, Brunhilda, Calypso, Calliope, Christabel, Catelina, Caliantha, Danika, Desdemona, Ekaterina, Electra, Eriskay, Elisaveta, Evadne, Elianne, Fenella, Fabia, Frederika, Graciella, Giovanna, Geraldine, Griselda, Henrietta, Imelda, Isadora, Jacinta, Jocasta, Jessamine, Jerica, Josette, Karensa, Kimora, Lavender, Leandra, Larissa, Lavinia, Leticia, Mirabelle, Melania, Nerissa, Neriah, Octavia, Peronelle, Paloma, Pandora, Rhiannyd, Rosina, Robina, Suzette, Summertime, Tatiana, Tamika, Teresina, Thomasina, Ulrika, Virginia, Wilhemina, Xanthippe, Yesenia

Ruthshaw1980 · 17/04/2018 22:16

Veryan and lowenna. Now those are interesting and very unusual. Unfortunately DH would not get Veryan as he hates Verity (will try tho). Lowenna I think he has previously vetoed but will suggest again. My absolute favourite cornish name is Elowen but guess what poo-pooed by DH.

Mariella - mmm interesting...
Elizabeth - classic but I fear the liz shortening. Libby is quite cute tho
Emily - beautiful and a favourite but she’d be one of 15 in her class
