That’s because if you call your daughter Poppy, Sophie, Evie or Millie they are caught in a permanent time freeze, unable to progress beyond the age of ten Wink

It’s a flower name, it’s pretty and perfectly inoffensive. I can understand it not being to people’s taste - I’m not keen on Iris and I don’t know why as the flower is lovely but it just doesn’t sound as nice to my ears - but the comments about not being an architect are bonkers.

Adultpoppy · 17/04/2018 07:12

I’m a 30 year old poppy and I’ve always loved my name! But there aren’t many of my age about.

immortalmarble · 17/04/2018 07:11

Poppy could easily be an architect

Some extremely posh friends of mine have a poppy and a rose.

CPtart · 17/04/2018 07:10

The Poppy I know has siblings Sonny and Alfie.
Very infantile.

muffyduffster · 17/04/2018 07:09

I was set on Poppy for our DD if she was a girl but DH vetoed last minute on the grounds that it wasn't a "name for an architect" Hmm but agree with PPs that it will become normal for adults as it's popular. Shame that it doesn't have a longer version else I could've snuck it through that way Grin

Feb2018mumma · 17/04/2018 07:04

Lovely name but there are alot of poppy's out there now, just had my baby and know 2 baby poppy's as well as all the older ones.

Onceuponatimethen · 17/04/2018 06:56

Surely full version for bc should be Potpouri

MojoMissing · 17/04/2018 06:54

Kerplunk Grin

immortalmarble · 17/04/2018 06:49

I think Poppy is a lovely name.

Onceuponatimethen · 17/04/2018 06:47

Life, I agree but what if the person who had it grows up to be a real plain Jane looking more like a standard name like Charlotte? I’m not glam and think this name would be rediculous on me.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 17/04/2018 02:54

It's alright. Bit cutesy. Doesn't exactly set me alight with excitement. It's very popular though, I know about 6 Poppy's under the age of 11!

Lifeaback · 17/04/2018 02:51

I agree with a pp that it has glamorous/model like connotations for me- it is a cutesy name for a little girl but transitions well into a glamorous women's name. It's on our list for dd4 and I really like it, a lot of people seem to really dislike it though

KerplunkChampion · 16/04/2018 22:23

Put the full version on the birth certificate, Poppeline.

chezmk1988 · 16/04/2018 22:13

Sweet for a kid but can't imagine an adult poppy

TroubledLichen · 16/04/2018 22:13

I know 5 Poppys but they’re all dogs

Sophronia · 16/04/2018 22:10

Not keen, it’s very twee.

BringMeCoffeePlease · 16/04/2018 20:36

Hate it. It’s a very wet name.

RoundaboutSnail · 16/04/2018 20:28

It's a lovely name. It's quite popular at the moment so people will get used to it for any age as time goes on.

Dan1983 · 16/04/2018 20:11

^^ Good point.

@Dan1983 , surely others opinions are irrelevant if you love it though? I don't think anyone has a name that everybody loves.

MissPricklePants · 16/04/2018 19:55

Love it! It's my dds name!

Fluffybat · 16/04/2018 19:51

Love the name

Dan1983 · 16/04/2018 19:50

That's the reason I posted this topic, just to see what other's think of it. My OH has been told a few times it's a ridiculous name.

Oh, well there you go, you've chosen.
At least now you know what people will be really thinking when they tell you they love the name.

Onceuponatimethen · 16/04/2018 19:43

I love the sound of it but I wouldn’t use it because I don’t think it suits everyone. I would hate to be called Poppy.

I used to know someone who had a sister called Heidi and used to say it’s more of a cute little girl name but a bit horrendous if you are fat fair and 40 Shock I can see what he meant in a way though bd think it kind of applies to names like Poppy
