What do you think of the name Rory? It's my DH's front runner if we have a boy but I'm not sold. All I can think is Rory Mcilroy and I'm not a golf fan...

I like it too.

jammiebammie · 14/04/2018 21:31

*uncommon, bloody auto correct.

I’ll second @evilharpy, dh is a lovely guy Grin

jammiebammie · 14/04/2018 21:30

Dh is a Rory, and its quite in common with his age tbh (Rory Gallagher was the inspo o believe!)
Now there are so many babies/Young’s children with the name, dh often turns hearing is name in a supermarket when mums are shouting on their kids!
I do really like it for a little boy.

We actually gave Dd Rory as a middle name, and it’s unreal how many people have actually told us how awful it is for a girl, and we’re cruel (honestly!) so unfortunately I’m really regretting giving it to dd, but i still love it for a boy.

evilharpy · 14/04/2018 21:28

Love it. Also have never met a Rory, adult or child, who I didn't like.

ChocolateCrunch · 14/04/2018 21:26

Yep, really like it.

DramaAlpaca · 14/04/2018 21:03

Love, love, love Rory, but only for a boy.

gwen25 · 14/04/2018 20:38

I absolutely love Rory!

MerryDeath · 14/04/2018 20:19

BasilThirty · 14/04/2018 20:17

Also prefer it for a girl as a nickname for Aurora.

I would tend to go for traditional names e.g. Edward, Alexander, Benjamin, but I'm struggling to find a boys name where I like both the long and common short versions. For example, like Christopher, don't like Chris.

TBH I'm being quite hard work about the whole thing, so as my DH has strong feelings about Rory I'm trying to make the effort to at least consider it fully.

Really like it, surprisingly underused given how nice it is

Padfoot100 · 14/04/2018 20:11

I love it!

LoveInTokyo · 14/04/2018 20:11

What you think matters too though. What names do you like?

Squashpocket · 14/04/2018 20:05

Hmm, thanks everyone. I'm trying to come round to it because DH loves it and I've totally failed to come up with a shortlist of my own.

I have a girl names Rorie (Aurora)
I love her name :)

AnyaMoondial · 14/04/2018 19:49

I really like it.

Kirta · 14/04/2018 19:48

I actually like it for a girl! Was thinking of shortening Aurora to Rory. I'm not sure about it for a boy.

treaclesoda · 14/04/2018 19:48

I love Rory. It was one of our favourite names but a relative used it first. Smile

stitchglitched · 14/04/2018 19:48

Love it.

Sophronia · 14/04/2018 19:48

I’m not keen but I think I’ll be in the minority. It seems popular on here.

BalloonDinosaur · 14/04/2018 19:48

Love it. DS would've been Rory but DP vetoed it Sad
