I love Grey for a boy but not keen on Greyson, are there any other names Grey could be a shortening for?

I know a Graham who goes by Gray. I actually really like it, but only as a shortened version of something else! And definitely not spelled like the colour.

Graham's are sometimes shortened verbally to the same sound.

Graeme or Graham are both lovely utterly sensible names. Gray / grey are both not.

It is a boring and nondescript colour. All fifty shades of it.

Sorry, but to me it just isn't even a name, even though it can be short for Graham.

Wasn't John Major known as the grey Prime Minister?

Graham. I don't like Grayson - makes me think of Larry Greyson and it's a bit like Grace (cf Alison, Madison)

If you go with a colour name be careful of what middle/ last name he has. I knew a boy once called Matt Brown. Everyone always teased him and said "it's Matt Brown, the most boring colour paint you can buy". I can imagine a similar scenario occuring with a name like Grey.

Graham really is your only option.

But don't do Grey on its own. It might sound cool & distinguished in some ways but in others dull.

Liv Tyler stepson is called Grey Gardner.
I like the name; I think it sounds sophisticated, a bit like Greer for a girl (one of Booke Shields daughters)

Gray is a bit trendy now. But in forty years time, the name Greg will still be used often enough to be a normal name to fall back on.

I actually like Gray but not having seen the fifty shades of gray films, I don't know HOW risky a choice is it.

ps, if you go with Grey as a name please use Gray with the a spelling as I don't see that as the bland colour of Grey but as a name. Calling somebody grey is a bit of an insult. ''He's a bit ............grey''.

Actually at first glance I thought the thread title was Greg. I prefer that to Grey.

Grayson works with Gray as a shortening. Or Graham, but you may feel that’s outdated. Grey with an e isn’t nice.

I would say go for Graham/Graeme (don't like Grayson at all). I'd spell it Gray though.
