How do you pronounce Saoirse?

Sur-sha or sear-sha?

I prefer the first but not if it isn't correct hmm.

Im Irish, I would say Seer-sha, although I know a lot of Sur-shas and even a Sur-ca !

I would pronounce it seer-sha (I’m not in the UK or Ireland but have Northern Irish relatives).

But I think Saoirse Ronan will make sir-sha the dominant pronunciation in the way Keira Knightley made Keira dominant over Kiera.

There are different accents in Ireland you know! As well as different dialects of Irish.

I’m Irish, living in Ireland and any of the Saoirses I know pronounce it ‘Seersha’

My DDs were obsessed with the film 'Song of the Sea' for a while. I've based my pronunciation on that, which was 'Seer-sha'.

I have trouble with lots of pronunciation. My dsis pronounces so many things wrong worcestshire is one. I asked how she would prounounce saorise and she didnt even want to hazzard a guess.

I had a Sorcha in my class at school. She was sorsha but she (and the rest of our class) let our English teacher call her Sorka for 3 years before subtley correcting her Grin

Some people pronounce saw-ra-ka
Others it's more surra-ka

Except the "ka" sound is more "kha"

But I'm trying to keep it simple Grin
