I did know a girl called 'Leigh' pron Lee...

PreemptiveFartSquats · 15/04/2018 08:49

I went to school with a male Leighton (pn Leyton) in the 80s so if it's made up it was made up a long time ago.

Happyland8 · 15/04/2018 08:12

Lay-ton

Happyland8 · 15/04/2018 08:12

Lay-ton

Halsall · 15/04/2018 08:09

Also the photographer Leigh Miller is pronounced Lee

Harebell if you mean the American woman photographer, her name was spelt 'Lee', not 'Leigh'.

And I have to say that when I visited Leighton House last year they definitely said 'Welcome to 'lay-ton' house' at the front desk. I've always heard it called that and I worked in that area of London for over 20 years Confused

Lay-ton, a boy, and a perfectly normal name!

WeirdyMcBeardy · 13/04/2018 21:48

It is a boys name. Never heard of a girl called Leighton (pronounced Lay-ton). I don't like it.

LovelyBranches · 13/04/2018 20:19

I’m from South Wales and know a few men called Leighton. Never knew it was a place name.

Tropicana123 · 12/04/2018 23:40

I know both male and female named Leighton

Atticusss · 12/04/2018 23:36

Lay-ton. I think it's interesting that older men with this name are usually middle class and young boys with it definitely not. It sounds awful in the local accent here. Long a, dropped t.

CeeCeeMacFay · 12/04/2018 23:35

I would think of a girl and pronounce it lay-ton
