Really liking Pixie for a first name, but not sure if its a bit much? Is there anything that Pixie could be a nickname for?

Beatrix/Trixie/Pixie - too tenuous?

I agree that you are confusing abbreviations with nicknames.

Dr Pixie McKenna off the TV is really called Bernadette. I imagine that Pixie is the kind of affectionate name that evolves for a small, cheeky child and sticks.... at 44 my DSis is still known by her toddler nickname. Not Pixie, but not dissimilar.

I know a Pia, which is about the only girls name starting with Pi except Piper I can think of. Piper is a name used for girls... Pixie could work for Philippa instead of Pippa...

As the first reply says pixie is a nickname you could use for a child with any given name, it's not really a pet form of another name, more an affectionate reference to character. In that context though it is odd to plan to call an unborn child that, she might be quite chilled, or quite a chubby cuddly baby and toddler and not suit pixie.

Actual names don't have to "suit" the child because they are names and babies are often utterly unlike the child and adult they grow into, but nicknames usually come later and fit character traits!

Pixie as a name is high risk - your child might be pixie like, but what if she's tall, well built and serious? As pixie isn't usually a given name it will sit uncomfortably on a child/ teen / woman who isn't an ethereal mischief maker!

I know a Pixi, it suits her so much and is lovely

Pixarella?

DullAndOld · 10/04/2018 20:09

we had a pony called Pixie...:)

Treacletoots · 10/04/2018 20:09

Go with Pixie if you like it! It's noone else's business if they don't. We actually had Pixie shortlisted for our DD as we thought it was cute, along with Darcy, Amelie and Hattie.

I don't think pixie is short for anything traditionally , but if you like the name why not just go with it (a la pixie geldof)? Or as the pp said use it as a nickname whatever the proper name :)

BabloHoney · 10/04/2018 20:06

Priscilla or Phillippa? Agree it’s more of a standalone nickname though. Pixie Lott’s real name is Victoria!

Oysterbabe · 10/04/2018 20:05

Agree with the above. DD's nickname is Sausage. Just choose a name that you love and call her Pixie as a nickname. Finding something you can turn into Pixie is too contrived.

Tiddlywinks63 · 10/04/2018 20:04

Nicknames aren't the same as abbreviated names op. You can give someone any nickname you like!
I know a toddler called Joshua who's nickname is Noodle 😄

AntiqueOlive · 10/04/2018 20:04

Prisca?

DryAsThingysFootwear · 10/04/2018 20:03

My sister's nickname is Pixie. It has nothing to do with her real name, she is the clumsiest, most heavy handed person I've ever met Grin

cowgirlblues · 10/04/2018 20:02

Peaches Grin or anything beginning with a P. Polly?

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 10/04/2018 20:01

Anything you like. My son has a nickname that bears no resemblance to his actual name!
