Royal baby names Mary 3/1 for a girl

I'm sure there has been many threads on this already.. read this morning that Mary is the hot favorite for girl & Henry for a boy.
Love Mary hope they use it, Princess Mary nice, fresh & underused, would be nice for Mary to have a comeback. Alice next at 6/1, prefer Mary.

Yep that baby isn't far off now. It's funny how excited everyone is about a baby who will be Andrew's equivalent in 40 years time, ie a hated waster even by royalists standards

May was Princess May of Teck who married George V and became Queen Mary, the Queen’s grandmother. Their daughter was Princess Mary, the Queen’s aunt.

Has there been an English royal called Louis before? The last famous royal Louis ended up with his head in a basket so if they're superstitious they might avoid that!

I think Caroline would be a nice tribute to Kate's mother Carole.
It will probably be Alice.
Or Arthur for a boy.
Or Louis.

Apparently Charlotte should have been ‘Lady’ rather than HRH and the Queen had to consent to the surplus Cambridge DCs getting a title above their station.

It says a lot about how much the couple think of themselves.

Anyway, I don't think they'll use Mary because Princess Mary makes everyone think of the Australian one (now Danish).

It'll be Alice, mark my words.

Or it'll be a boy. Then I'm not sure, but would put money on Arthur.

"Too Catholic" names might be things like Bernadette or Imelda (neither of which is plausible for royalty anyway).

Mary is fine. Wasn't Mary II the one who basically helped her husband William of Orange take the crown of England by force to STOP her father James II from establishing a Catholic dynasty in England and to defend Protestantism in Europe? Mary was a common name for mainstream Protestant girls until the 1970s in England, and is still sometimes used as a middle name.

Why is it a problem for them to use the name Mary? Don't protestants believe Mary was the mother of Jesus? I know she has greater significance in Catholicism but she's hardly persona non grata in the Anglican Church is she??? Confused

They could go with Maria - most popular name I think in Greece.

I wouldn't say it's "only" Catholic. But it's the most catholic girls name there is, surely. I'm not Irish either.

I wouldn’t say any names are particularly Protestant or catholic - but then I’m not Irish! I don’t think most people would say Mary was only a catholic name.

There’s not a huge selection of names, as Kate & William try to be as uncontroversial as possible. So I think Alice too with Caroline as a middle name. There is already a Princess Alexandra in the family.

No one ever mentions that Charlotte is the feminine form of Charles.

Looking at Kate’s bump, I am quite convinced she is having a boy.
Not so sure about Arthur. Apparently Prince Charles wanted it for William but Diana said no.
Not a lot of boys name choices. Michael as a middle name. Maybe one of the Scandinavian royal names like Christian. Frederick is nice but Prince Freddie, makes me think of Freddie Prinz junior

I think Meghan will have a bit more flexibility with her kids names, as they are likely to be “just” Lord & Lady. And there is talk that her title may be countess, rather than duchess. Although when Prince Phillip pops his clogs, Edward & Sophie will become Duke & Duchess of Edinburgh, so I don’t think they will let E & S outrank Harry and Meghan

I didn’t think Kate was a bridesmaid for her sister either. I remember seeing photos her wearing a nude coloured dress and something on her head and helping with the flower girls and ushers. Didn’t think she did the whole bridesmaid bit, but could be misremembering.

Wouldn't Mary be considered a bit too Catholic for the daughter of the future head if the Church if England?

They have previously chosen very safe, top 10 "everyman" names. I can't see them going too off piste this time.
