We can't, can we?

So my husband and I have recently decided we really like the name Wilf (admittedly this could be hormonal craziness).

However our surname is Wild.

Does this totally veto it or can it work because of the different sound of Wild to Wilf?

So Wilf Wild, yes or no?

Thanks everyone for the great feedback and some definitely had me laughing 😂 (Though I guess not what you want for your child's name)

There seems to be a lot of love for it, but it's very polarising and I think the negatives are so strong I'm not sure I'd want to sidle my child with it. DH isn't put off yet but I think I'll put it in reserve for my future old English sheepdog 🐶

Really glad someone brought up the porn star thing.

starsandstuff · 06/04/2018 23:23

Unless you're giving birth to a cartoon teenage detective I would say no.

Buntysoven · 06/04/2018 23:15

I bloody love it!

Joeybee · 06/04/2018 22:40

Wilfred is a fantastic name and Wilf is a lovely nickname for it. I'm not sure it works with your surname. I'm not a fan of alliteration with names, also it sounds a bit like 'Wolf Wild' which is horrible.
I have the same problem, my favourite name is Raphael but my surname is a double-barrelled R name, so it just doesn't work.

sonypony · 06/04/2018 21:14

I also think Wilfred Wild sounds better.

FlatTopVera · 06/04/2018 21:06

Love it too!

whatstheplanphil · 06/04/2018 21:06

Wilf Wild is one cool dude!!

Mrsknackered · 06/04/2018 21:05

Very bold but I like it.

Wilfred Wild nn Wilf is great

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 06/04/2018 20:46

Wilf Wild is one awesome dude.

Freyanna · 06/04/2018 20:40

No, it sounds daft.

windchimesabotage · 06/04/2018 20:35

Go with Wilfred Wild. Thats an amazing name to have!

scrivette · 06/04/2018 20:34

Maybe Wilfred Wild but called Wilf - brilliant name!

FairiesVsPixies · 06/04/2018 20:33

Wilf Wild, I imagine would be a tall, skinny, private detective with floppy hair and a long brown overcoat.
I like it Grin

Glumglowworm · 06/04/2018 20:32

It’s a big no from me

It sounds like an annoying children’s book character

Bimbaloo · 06/04/2018 20:29

I was going to say that Wild would have been a good name for one of those early English popstars like Billy Fury and Georgie Fame. But apparently there was one, Marty Wilde, father of me, Kim!

FreetobewhateverI · 06/04/2018 20:27

You can....but don't, terrible idea

You've got a great surname, now go away and give yourself a stern talking to, and find a decent name

Thistlebelle · 06/04/2018 20:26

Wilf is fine.
Wilf Wild is not. It’s really hard to say.

Bimbaloo · 06/04/2018 20:26
Grin
pepperpot99 · 06/04/2018 20:25

Is that you Kim? Grin

Bimbaloo · 06/04/2018 20:24

Wilfred is a (feeble) slap in the face to a surname like Wild.

TokyoSushi · 06/04/2018 20:24

I love it!!

Bubbinsmakesthree · 06/04/2018 20:23

Wilfred Wild is utterly fabulous. Wilf Wild doesn't sound quite right.

pepperpot99 · 06/04/2018 20:22

Dh is suggesting Oscar Wild? That has a certain cultural and literary cachè to it that you'll never get in Willy Wild.

pepperpot99 · 06/04/2018 20:19

He'll just become Willy Wild. Ask yourself if you really want that for your kid?
