So my husband and I have recently decided we really like the name Wilf (admittedly this could be hormonal craziness).

However our surname is Wild.

Does this totally veto it or can it work because of the different sound of Wild to Wilf?

So Wilf Wild, yes or no?

Ok so it sounds like a cool fab cartoon name.

And what if you don't have a cool cartoon extrovert confident kid who can carry it off with flair and a fedora at a jaunty angle? What if you have a shy or quiet or introverted kid who loathes having to give his rather bizarre name? Wild is a great surname to go with loads of strong, simple names without turning him into a cliche.

Having worked with children for two decades I have come across far worse and I quite like it. It will also make it easy for him to read Magic Key books at school. Go for it.

You could break it up with a middle name, so something like 'Wilf J. Wild'.

God no, he's a real person not a cartoon. It's all very well thinking its cool but you're not the one who has to actually have the name for an entire lifetime.

I guess in English the i in Wilf isn't pronounced like the i in Wild, so it seems to work.

In other languages it would be pronounced Wilf Willd, not so good!

I love names that alliterate and that sound like the should be characters from a superhero comic book. But I bottled it when came to my own children who both have solid, classic names.
