Thoughts for a girl. After the Scottish Island (and whisky made there). We are Scottish Smile

Too much like durex

MadMaryBoddington · 01/04/2018 23:15

Love it.

Beeziekn33ze · 31/03/2018 21:22

So many other, lovelier place names in Scotland.

BakedBeans47 · 31/03/2018 09:58

I quite like it, but then I also liked Gigha if we ever had a girl (we didnt’), so what do I know Grin

RavenWings · 30/03/2018 23:39

Region in France. I'm ok with it though as a name, but just ok. It definitely doesn't wow me.

Heismyopendoor · 30/03/2018 23:20

My friends dog is called Jura, I actually really like it. But then my kids are all Scottish place names :)

CarlyCape · 30/03/2018 23:17

Makes me think of the recent jury service I did and being called 'jura' number 4. It's unique for sure!

RapunzelIsHere · 30/03/2018 20:54

I like it! My first thought was Game of Thrones too, but I don’t see why that should put you off. He’s a great character.

bridgetreilly · 30/03/2018 20:52

I assumed for a boy, and I didn't much like it when I thought that. Definitely not for a girl.

LiviaAD · 30/03/2018 15:56

Ooh no, if she's busty everyone will go on about the paps of Jura, my old friend got that all the time and she just lived there. It's also a pretty ugly name for a girl - sorry.

pieceofpurplesky · 30/03/2018 15:31

I think today most people will see you as Game of Thrones fans. I don't know it was whiskey!

harrietm87 · 30/03/2018 15:08

I like it but did immediately think of the whisky!

Zeze247 · 30/03/2018 11:26

I like it I also know a wee boy called Tiree

mamamalt · 30/03/2018 09:33

It's beautiful. I want to steal it!
If I could make it an Irish connection I would!

NotCornflakes · 30/03/2018 09:00

I'm all for island names, but call her Skye or Iona or Shuna or Rona, all far nicer than Jura!

grandplans · 30/03/2018 08:59

First thought was Whisky.

imk8 · 30/03/2018 08:58

Great choice!

Kion · 30/03/2018 05:55

I personally love the name for a cat or dog but for a person, especially a baby or child, I think it's too harsh sounding.
I've seen previous threads on this name where people comment on it sounding too much
like Durex!

Great, beautiful island though and there are so many more lovely Scottish names to choose from. Good luck OP.

LostInTheColonies · 30/03/2018 05:53

I like it, and there are way too many Isla(y)s around for sure.
What about Morven?
Wouldn't recommend Eigg, Muck or Rùm though Grin

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 30/03/2018 05:51

My Dad is Scottish and a whiskey drinker and I've have never heard of Jura whiskey! I think it's a lovely name, especially in a Scottish accent.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 30/03/2018 05:35

I also thought of the department in France. Plus it's an ugly sounding word. So a no from me.

Fozzleyplum · 30/03/2018 04:54

It's not bad, but I would hear it as "Jury". I know you've not asked for suggestions, but if I was looking to give a child a Scottish place name, I'd go for Torrin.

BradleyPooper · 30/03/2018 01:09

My coffee machine is made by Jura....

Jura?
Refilona · 30/03/2018 00:54

As in "promise"

Refilona · 30/03/2018 00:53

Also means "swear" in Portuguese.
