Is this TOO Harry Potter-y?!!!

Found out today that we are having a girl. DH and I agreed on a first name ages ago but I'm thinking about middle names. My great great grandmother was a Swiss lady called Hedwig. I think it is really pretty and unusual but DH not so keen! I am a huge Harry Potter fan but would never intentionally seek out a themed name. I like the name itself and the family connection. I am named after my Swiss great aunt (middle name). Just wondered what others think about Hedwig and would you always associate with Harry Potter?!!!

as a middle name I don't thnk it matters too much
and as it's a family name the HP association is fine, theother thing I've never heard of

Never heard of Angry Inch. If I heard a baby called Hedwig I would definitely think you’d done it because you were a HP fan.

OohMavis · 29/03/2018 20:02

But if it's the middle name who cares? That's where parents get free reign, no? I'd use it. It has familial ties.

There's someone on Instagram who's given their children absolutely ridiculous middle names like 'Super Duper' Hmm

OohMavis · 29/03/2018 20:00

I'm a huge harry potter fan, and would still associate the name with the Angry Inch.

I understand your love of the name But to an outsider and to the other kids at school it may sound a bit hilarious which is unfair but that's the way of the world. She may not be pleased with you!

I am a ginormous Harry Potter fan - I've incorporated it in both my children's names Grin
I would really really really be put off by the Hedwig and the Angry Inch association... too much of a link for me - Hedwig as a name isn't too out there for a middle, or even a second middle but it depends on the trends around then!

GeorgeTheHippo · 29/03/2018 19:52

I think for middle names anything goes.

FancyNewBeesly · 29/03/2018 19:51

Or Hedwig and the Angry Inch...

I’d probably avoid to be honest. It’s not adult opinions I’d worry about, it’s potential issues at school.

Oysterbabe · 29/03/2018 19:50

Yes I would but it's a middle name so I don't think it matters.

Buxbaum · 29/03/2018 19:50

Actually my first association would be Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Google it if you aren't familiar - it is a completely brilliant musical but it won't be to everyone's taste. Hedwig is a transgender rock star whose reassignment surgery is botched, hence the 'angry inch'.

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 29/03/2018 19:49

I would associate it with Harry potter and assume you really loved owls....

Could u use a similar name or as a middle name?
