I've just had DD, she is a whole 5 days old and we thought we'd picked a good name, but I've just received an email from a family friend saying that it's a terrible name.
Please tell me straight, is Ophelia Elizabeth Cole a horrible name?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MrsMyreton · 27/03/2018 19:13

Wow. I think it's lovely OP.
Stealing Ophelia for my baby name list in case I have another daughter.

KirstenRaymonde · 27/03/2018 19:13

Ophelia Cole is fine for me to say, I’ve said it out loud a few times to see!

It’s a lovely name, and your friend is very odd to email to it isn’t. What end does she hope that will achieve?

AnotherRoadsideAttraction · 27/03/2018 19:12

I love the name Ophelia and it's very beautiful (Shakespeare's dark connotations and all)...

However, it's really awkward with the surname Cole. Especially when said out loud. I'm sorry, OP, but it's the truth.

Oysterbabe · 27/03/2018 19:12

It's fine. Not sure what people are talking about saying it's difficult to say or sounds wrong out loud Confused

MrsMozart · 27/03/2018 19:11

I love the names - but say Ophelia Cole out loud and think as a child/teen.

Glumglowworm · 27/03/2018 19:11

It’s not to my personal taste but there’s nothing wrong with it at all. It’s incredibly rude of your “friend” to go out of their way to tell you they hate it.

My cousins just had a baby and I’m not a fan of the name (nothing wrong with it, just not my taste at all) I would never say anything to her except “oh he’s so cute” because it’s not my business.

MammaH2018 · 27/03/2018 19:10

It’s a lovely name! Congratulations on the birth of your little girl Smile
Your “friend” is being nasty and there is absolutely no reason she should have sent you that message. Frankly I would tell her to piss off!

Latitia · 27/03/2018 19:08

It's an absolutely fantastic name!! My DP won't let me have Ophelia. I loved it as soon as I saw Pan's Labyrinth. He's right, it sounds silly with his surname (almost rhymes).

Your friend had absolutely zero right to send you that email.

MagentaRocks · 27/03/2018 19:08

Your friend is awful. Don’t let her take the shine off your happiness.

Greenglassteacup · 27/03/2018 19:08

Beautiful name, tell your ‘friend’ to jog on. Congratulations Flowers

SweepTheHalls · 27/03/2018 19:07

On paper, lovely, until said out loud..... I'm a freshest right and you should change it....

Pindlesandneedles · 27/03/2018 19:05

Congratulations, what a beautiful name. Your friend is either really odd, really horrible or you have unwittingly given your DD the name she wanted to give her child and she’s trying to put you off it?? I really hope you can ignore her comments. Enjoy all the lovely newborn cuddles!

MrsSkeffington · 27/03/2018 19:05

My daughter is called Ophelia! Tell her to fuck off

SparklyMagpie · 27/03/2018 19:04

I thought nothing of it (thought it was lovely) until a PP said something that made me say it out loud and I'm wondering if that's what the "friend" was implying

But ignore her OP

whoareyoukidding · 27/03/2018 19:03

Congratulations, and your 'friend' can do one.

Longdistance · 27/03/2018 19:03

Email your ‘friend’ and tell them to Foxtrot Oscar!

Hobnobsarenotfordunking · 27/03/2018 19:03

The name isn’t to my taste but if you like it then there is nothing wrong with it. Totally rude to butt in to someone else’s business like that.

Petalflowers · 27/03/2018 19:01

And congratulations!

Petalflowers · 27/03/2018 19:01

How rude!

Lovely name.

Tartyflette · 27/03/2018 18:59

It's a nice name -- quite long first and middle names but the short surname means it flows well and ends on a strong sounding note.
Many congrats -- and your friend is an arse.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 27/03/2018 18:57

Lovely name. Tell her to butt out and it’s none of her business. You haven’t asked her for her opinion, and you don’t care what it is.

user1498549192 · 27/03/2018 18:57

It's a lovely name. And even if your friend hates it she not be ashamed of herself for being so rude, especially at a time when your hormones are all over the place and you're emotionally fragile.

Congratulations on your beautiful squishy little newborn Flowers

3luckystars · 27/03/2018 18:56

She is not your friend.

Best wishes with your new baby.

Hooleywhipper · 27/03/2018 18:56

She’s a friend you say....
Congratulations what a beautiful name.

AlbertaSimmons · 27/03/2018 18:56

what a horrible thing to do. It's a nice name, but Ophelia Cole isn't easy to say aloud.
