What are your thoughts on Oswald. Too out there for old-man chic?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

It has a nice ring to it, but the association with Lee Harvey would rule it out for me I'm afraid. As much as I love assassins.

SumAndSubstance · 25/03/2018 15:57

I know a little boy Oswald! I've sort of got used to it and it does suit him, but I can't say it would make it onto my list if I had another DS...

lynmilne65 · 25/03/2018 15:52

Oswald the ostrich ( I am old! )

lynmilne65 · 25/03/2018 15:50

just No

falang · 25/03/2018 15:48

There is a saint and a school with that name so that's what I think. I asked my daughter and she's never heard of Mosley so not everyone would make that connection. He'd probably get it shortened to Ossie anyway.

FairyFantastic · 25/03/2018 15:45

Cobblepot (The Penguin from Batman)

Spirael · 25/03/2018 15:36

Lucky Rabbit.

tierraJ · 25/03/2018 15:34

Oswald the owl.

Also Moseley who was a Fascist pig.

Luckingfovely · 25/03/2018 15:33

It either sounds like a duck, or a mass murderer. Please don't curse your innocent child with this name.

Yvest · 25/03/2018 15:33

Moseley. Vile man. Don’t do it

LinoleumBlownapart · 25/03/2018 15:30

My son's doll is called Oswald, he named it when he was two. I quite like it. Lee Harvey Oswald hasn't stopped the popularity of either Lee or Harvey so I can't think the Oswald is a problem. As for Oswald Moseley, hardly the same caliber as Joseph Starlin or Benito Mussolin and still plenty of little Josephs and Benitos. In fact there's even lots of little Georges (bush), so that didn't put anyone off and there's probably still boys being called Donald and Vladimir Grin

I also like Olavo.

gruber · 25/03/2018 15:18

Sorry. I see Oswald and think “Moseley”. And I’m young (33).

officerhinrika · 25/03/2018 15:17

Lee Harvey? No positive connections that I can think of.

nordicflamingo · 25/03/2018 15:17

Is it a doctor who reference?

Thurlow · 25/03/2018 15:16

Moseley. Which isn't good.

Buckingfrolicks · 25/03/2018 15:15

Don't usually post on baby name threads but will make an exception to say that Oswald is unspeakably bad.

DullAndOld · 25/03/2018 15:08

I like it.
And I don't think people will associate it with Oswald Mosley tbh.

Cyberworrier · 25/03/2018 15:05

Most famous Oswald is Oswald Mosley, leader of British fascists, friend of Hitler. Pretty awful association! Lots of other old man chic names to choose from.
