Drusilla reminds me of The Carpenters (though I’m sure theirs is spelt ‘Druscilla’), so I think it would make me smile if I heard it across the playground. Smile

ReversingSnail · 25/03/2018 23:32

Maris -potato, how about Marin?
Tristana - like
Meredith - OK but a bit frumpy
Morgana - quite like, also Merryn
Carmen - makes me think of cars and men, it's a nice sound though, also Cara
Marguerite/Daisy - like, also Greta and Marjorie
Gwendolyn onwards - don't like

Other ideas - Xandra short for Alexandra, Elspeth, Morwenna, Rowan, Alys

Joeybee · 25/03/2018 23:06

Maris - Sounds like a make of car.
Tristana - Ugh, no.
Meredith - Lovely name, not too popular. Merry/Edit potential nn.s.
Morgana - Too 90's
Carmen - plain
Marguerite Daisy - LOVE it. Classic but different at the same time.
Gwendolyn - Nice, cute, Gwen is good nn.
Drusilla -Like Ursula but worse.
Ursula - Ugly.
Kendra - Too made-up and common sounding.
Psyche NO...not even as a middle name, it's just awful.
Lilith - Boring, plain, meh.

Maris Piper potato
Lilith sounds like a lisp
Kendra sounds like its copied from Sandra
Daisy is ok
Don't like the rest.

Smoliver · 25/03/2018 19:37

From you list, I like Meredith, Morgana and Gwendolyn the most.

MakeMineAStrongOne · 25/03/2018 19:16

Doh. I meant Lilith and Maris, obviously

MakeMineAStrongOne · 25/03/2018 19:15

The Frasier associations with both Lilith and Frasier are too awful for me btw! How about Daphne? Ros? At least they were a laugh! Wink

MakeMineAStrongOne · 25/03/2018 19:14

I quite like Gwendolyn- Gwen? How about Margot instead of Marguerite, bit more manageable and cool? Not keen on others really....

madeyemoodysmum · 25/03/2018 19:12

Gwendolyn. Is the only one I like

WhitneyHoustonsbathtub · 25/03/2018 19:11

Are you serious?

Bear2014 · 25/03/2018 19:06

DD (4) has a friend called Lilith and I've always thought it was lovely. She's a cool kid and it suits her.

Eatsleepworkrepeat · 25/03/2018 18:56

I mean, Psyche would be an interesting talking point when she goes for therapy...

Lobsterquadrille2 · 25/03/2018 18:52

I thought that Lilith killed the newborn babies of other women, because she was so angry at being punished by God (and I think that involved the deaths of her own babies). A friend of mine liked Lilith but changed it to Lilla after finding this out.

LoveInTokyo · 25/03/2018 18:08

Carmen is nice but a bit weird if you don’t have Spanish roots. Ditto French for Marguerite. Meredith is quite nice. Not keen on the others, sorry. (Do you know what Lilith means?)

Fluffypurpleslipper · 25/03/2018 17:10

Lilith or Ursula.

Was your list originally the romantic girls’ names?

IrisApfelRocks · 25/03/2018 17:06

That quote didn't highlight for some reason. I obviously don't know how to use mn properly too 🤦🏻‍♀️

IrisApfelRocks · 25/03/2018 17:05

Really sorry. Yes we all know Psyche is from Greek Mythology thanks, but it's normal daily use just has the wrong connotations.

I didn't know. I just looked it up and it's so interesting. I agree that's it's pretty much unusable but it has a beautiful meaning.

I like Lilith a lot.

mintich · 25/03/2018 16:47

Ah thanks for the explanation!

NameChangedForThisQ · 25/03/2018 16:45

Lilith in Jewish mythology was created same time as Adam and wouldn't submit to him and called herself his equal so was banished from Eden and basically bitched about in her absence which is where she got reputation for being a demon from.

My name is on your list, and I haven’t used it since my late teens. Whenever I was asked my name I always got “what?!” As a response. Please reconsider any “unusual” names as it’s your child that has to live with it. It definitely knocked my confidence growing up, I have even considered changing it permanently by deed poll.

mintich · 25/03/2018 16:42

Sorry, I thinking missed something! Can you explain?

NameChangedForThisQ · 25/03/2018 16:40

I see a lot of poeple like Lilith. I am so torn on this because on one hand I am a feminist and believe the demonization is down to the patriarchy. On the other it might be difficult for people to swallow. Will have to think because I adore the name.
