What's your opinion on the name Alexandria Sheila? Is it a bit of a mouthful, it would be followed by a two syllable surname starting with B

Alexandria no. Alexandra yes.
Sheila hell no.

Fuffalo · 24/03/2018 01:56

I don't care about flow when it comes to middle names. I mean how often is the full name said aloud? I prefer a middle name with significance rather than a filler middle names like Rose or May.

I do prefer Alexandra to Alexandria though. People will mishear that name her entire life. Love the Alex/Sasha nicknames though.

CountFosco · 24/03/2018 01:49

I prefer Sheila to Alexandria, and I'm another who would go for Alexandra.

Sheila Alexandra would be nice and she'd be the only one in her class.

sycamore54321 · 24/03/2018 01:44

The "ia" ending is making it quite the mouthful - Alexandra Sheila flows much better. Or use the Irish spelling of Síle to look sleeker?

Ann doesn't work at all for me with Alexandria or Alexandra. It repeats a syllable from the long name and sounds silly to my ears.

In any case though, full names are rarely said and if you stick with Alexandria, that's quite the mouthful already so the middle name doesn't have a huge impact - it will still be a very long name. Conclusion - if both names are your favourites, go for it.

GeorgeTheHippo · 23/03/2018 17:37

She'll be constantly telling people it's not Alexandra. I'd go for Alexandra.

LoveInTokyo · 23/03/2018 17:18

I love Alexandra. Not wild about Alexandria - too frilly.

Sheila is a funny one. To me it sounds really dated but actually when you see it and say it out loud it’s quite pretty. Maybe it will make a comeback. Fine as a middle name I think.

MonsteraDeliciosa · 23/03/2018 16:10

I agree with others that Alexandra is better than Alexandria. Also think Sheila is due a revival!

junebirthdaygirl · 23/03/2018 07:23

Sheila is lrish for Juiia or Julie so could use that as a second name. But if someone is going to be happy in your family its fine. I gave my dd a very old fashioned family name as a second name and she loves it now in her 20s..says l should have called her that.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 23/03/2018 06:38

I like Sheila/Shelagh too, and the three I know, are all really lovely.

daisypond · 22/03/2018 23:13

I do think Alexandria Sheila is a bit of a mouthful and Alexandra Sheila is better. But I actually like Sheila / Shelagh, and I think it's one of those names from the 30s that will make a comeback.

bridgetreilly · 22/03/2018 21:32

Alexandria Joy and Alexandria Faith are lovely. I do struggle with Alexandria Sheila, and can only see her growing up constantly hoping no one asks what her middle name is. Sorry.

RickOShay · 22/03/2018 21:13

I have an Alexandra who wishes she was Alexandria Grin
She has two middle names.
I like Alexandria Shelia Anne. Flows well imho.

Eeeeek2 · 22/03/2018 21:09

Ooh I like Alexandria Joy

What about Alexandria Faith?

Alexandra Sheila does seem to flow a bit better.
I like Alex as a shortening can't do lexi as that's mums dog

Alexandria is fine. Sheila as a middle name is fine.
Don't add any other names.
Sasha is a nice nn.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 22/03/2018 13:52

Alexandra Anne.

Cotswoldmama · 22/03/2018 12:08

I like the name but it's very likely she'll be called Alex or lex. As long as your ok with that then go for it!

MammieBear · 22/03/2018 11:53

Sheila came from Cecilia meaning blind one so you could use Cecilia or I think Alexandria Cecily is sweet.

BevBrook · 22/03/2018 11:31

I also think Alexandra Sheila works better and is less of a mouthful, you lose the extra syllable.

TatianaLarina · 22/03/2018 11:28

Technically Alexandra is the name Alexandria is the place.

Spam88 · 22/03/2018 10:58

I agree that Alexandra is less of a mouthful.

BossWitch · 22/03/2018 10:56

I'd keep them but put Anne in the middle to break up the similar vowel sounds- Alexandria Anne Sheila.

TatianaLarina · 22/03/2018 10:51

Why not Alexandra - otherwise she will spend her life correcting people and having written incorrectly.

Much prefer Alexandra Anne to Sheila - the latter highly dated and Aus slang for woman.

ChocolateCrunch · 22/03/2018 09:14

If Sheila is a family name you want to use, I'd go ahead. If you want alternatives though:

Alexandria Claire
Alexandria Faye
Alexandria Wren
Alexandria Joy

mateysmum · 22/03/2018 09:14

I think AlexandRA Sheila flows better. It's the "ia" that make it a mouthful.

GinIsIn · 22/03/2018 09:11

It’s the vowel sounds - the EE-AH EE-AH is quite grating. Can you put another middle name in between? Or maybe Alexa or ALexandra?
