Etienne.

DH says that all he can think of is The Ethiad but I don't think they're that similar.

What do you think?

That was the name of the first boy I ever kissed Blush

Lovely name!

Buxbaum · 21/03/2018 13:25

Love it.

ikeepaforkinmypurse · 21/03/2018 11:55

it's a beautiful name, it reminds me of the less beautiful French town, I don't see how it sounds feminine? It's Stephen, isn't it?

lovechocolatetoomuch · 21/03/2018 08:38

I love this name and especially with your French heritage! Although I have to say, I know someone who named their daughter this recently! 😫

qazxc · 21/03/2018 08:22

As a middle name you don't have to worry about people mispronouncing / shortening to something you don't like/ thinking it's a girl name.... So I would think it's fine and a nod to your heritage.
It makes me think of the Patricia kaas song, but I doubt any non French will have that association.

MinaPaws · 21/03/2018 08:16

I love it. Though a friend of DS with French parents has that name and in UK everyone pronounces it Etchen. Less attractive but not a problem so much with a middle name.

TheNaze73 · 21/03/2018 08:09

It’s a fantastic name.

As pesto said, Allez Les Verts! Also I remember our Olympic canoeist Etienne Stott. And also love the band Saint Etienne

Go for it!

notacooldad · 21/03/2018 08:06

I know two Etienne's.
They both have French mothers. One is in his 20s and the other is a toddler. I think it is a great name. You have the French connection, it is a little different ( in the UK) but not outlandish. Perfect!

SuperBeagle · 21/03/2018 08:03

I don't like it.

And though it's masculine, it does seem very feminine. It's the "enne" ending. You'd expect a masculine name to be Etien instead, for example (Emanuel vs Emanuelle, Ariel vs Arielle, Michel vs Michelle, Henri vs Henriette / Henrietta, Lucien vs Lucienne).

chezmk1988 · 20/03/2018 22:26

As you're French then yes. I think it's nice. I also knew instantly it was a boys name and wouldn't have considered it a girls name.

CocoLoco87 · 20/03/2018 22:23

I think it's fab! It's on my shortlist for a middle name if we have another DS.

BurtTyrannosaurusMacklin · 20/03/2018 22:20

I really love it, especially with French heritage. For what it’s worth, my first thought was the character from The Beach (novel and film) bit that’s probably WAY too specific a reference to think too much about!

Love it.

AdalindSchade · 20/03/2018 22:12

Plenty of English people have suggested it for girls!!

squoosh · 20/03/2018 19:45

Go for it! You're French so it's nice to give him a French name, and it will hardly cause him too many 'isn't that a girl's name?' conversations if it's to be his middle name.

GinaLinetti99 · 20/03/2018 19:18

Love it.

Arapaima · 20/03/2018 19:17

I know an English one age 10, but it’s spelt Etien.

TatianaLarina · 20/03/2018 19:15

I thought it was a girl's name though

You see!

TatianaLarina · 20/03/2018 19:15

I would use it in France but not in the UK - people here will think it’s a girl’s name. I think there are other French boys’ names that work better here.

What about Sebastien, Benjamin, Leopold, Thibault, Louis.

suckonthatmaureen · 20/03/2018 19:08

Love it. It's one of my favourite boys names.

DairyisClosed · 20/03/2018 18:59

It makes me think of Zola's Germinal

endofacentury · 20/03/2018 18:57

Love it!

Pinkfrangipani · 20/03/2018 18:54

Love it! I wanted to give DS this name but we have no French links so felt wrong.

PestoSurfissimos · 20/03/2018 18:48

Allez les verts!!!!
