I really like the name Aubrey but my husband and family keep saying it's a mans name, I think it's a beautiful girls name. What do others think?

I had a great uncle Aubrey. Only one I've ever known.

AuntieStella · 19/03/2018 20:07

Boy's name - only know males in RL

Icklepickle101 · 19/03/2018 20:03

2 year old DS has a lovely little girl at nursery called Aubrey, me and DM regularly have this debate though!

ItMustBeBedtimeSurely · 19/03/2018 20:03

Definitely male. If you're in the UK is assume you'd got it mixed up with Audrey.

dun1urkin · 19/03/2018 19:59

I think if you’re from the US it’s a girls name (or unisex?), if you’re from the UK it’s a boys name.

Was on the list for my boy-cat. I think it’s a good cat name....

Nanasueathome · 19/03/2018 19:57

I have a female friend, Aubrey
She is American though so not sure if it’s very popular for girls in uk

CotswoldStrife · 19/03/2018 19:55

It's a male name to me.

Vanillamanilla1 · 19/03/2018 19:53

To me it's a males name.

gussyfinknottle · 19/03/2018 19:50

Boys'name. Audrey is a girl's name. But if you like it for a girl, use it. I have female cousins with what are traditionally boys ' names. They rock.

MysticFlyTrap · 19/03/2018 19:04

Unisex

ShowOfHands · 19/03/2018 18:58

Boys name but it's going the same way as Sacha which I loved for ds but people are increasingly appropriating it for girls.

windchimesabotage · 19/03/2018 18:56

Its traditionally a boys name but I dont see why you couldnt use it as a girls name seeing as names like James are used as girls names now days!

Donotbequotingmeinbold · 19/03/2018 18:56

There was an Aubrey in our family. He was male.

Notso · 19/03/2018 18:54

It's a boys name that sounds like a girls name to me. I used to go to a male hairdresser called Aubrey, however one of the Teen Mom's has a daughter called Aubrey/Aubree and a friend of DH has just had a daughter called Aubrey.

llangennith · 19/03/2018 18:32

Aubrey is a man’s name. Very old fashioned too.
Are you confusing it with Audrey?

expatinscotland · 19/03/2018 18:20

Male name. Never hear of people asking if Rose is a good name for a boy, it's always male names for girls.

lifechangesforever · 19/03/2018 18:19

I've only ever heard it as a girls name

YouCantBeSirius · 19/03/2018 18:19

Boys name

LadyTesticlee · 19/03/2018 18:17

ugly boys name

juneau · 19/03/2018 18:15

It's a man's name traditionally, but in America there are lots of female Aubreys - I think they've just assumed it's the same as Audrey.

justpoppngby · 19/03/2018 18:14

I once knew a female Aubrey- beautiful lovely lady.
Also there's a song called
Aubrey was her name, by Bread, around the 70's, I think.

thatsmyjoomper · 19/03/2018 18:13

The local shop where I used to live was owned by an old man called called Aubrey - only one I've ever known. We were really cheeky and used to snigger and call him Strawberry....

Fekko · 19/03/2018 18:10

Also an orange cartoon character with a very large nose.

Strugglingtodomybest · 19/03/2018 18:08

I know 2 and they're both men.

QuimReaper · 19/03/2018 18:06

It's commonly used for girls in the US. The only one I know in real life is a teenage boy.
