Merryn

Hi, We don't know if we're having a boy or a girl yet. Boys name is already agreed, but girls is still uncertain.
I love Meredith but OH is unsure.
We both like Juliet, so are kind of settled on that but I have niggling doubts.
With dd1 we were absolutely sure and in love with her name (Clara) but I'm just not feeling that type of reaction this time.
I'm considering suggesting Merryn to OH - I wasn't sure about it at first but its grown on me; what are people's opinions please? Does it sit well as a sibling for Clara?
Thanks

Eek it started well and went slightly downhill 😣
I can understand not everyone liking it, we all have different tastes. I can also understand people who watch GoT associating it with that. However I'd be amazed if someone who knew the GoT reference genuinely believed someone would deliberately name their baby girl after an evil male character - that's a bit bonkers 😂
I don't know what you mean about it being 'try hard' bridget. I know Merryn is uncommon but its hardly an out there choice. Dd1s name is top 100 - I don't want obscure for the sake of it, I just want a name that we can love.
I'm still wobbling over Juliet - I heard a dad call his little girl it in a park before we were even ttc and I thought it sounded beautiful and refreshing but something is holding me back.
It does sound good actually mary but we'll be having Lilian as the middle name.

I love it. I think Merryn Juliet is nice.

PeterRabbitEatingHisCarrot · 18/03/2018 13:45

It’s awful. Very harsh sounding.

Juliet is so much nicer.

bridgetreilly · 18/03/2018 13:30

I feel like Merryn is really trying too hard, personally. Also I love Juliet and think it goes much better with Clara.

Thistlebelle · 18/03/2018 13:30

I think Merryn is nice but that Juliette goes better with Clara.

Holycrapwhatnow · 18/03/2018 13:29

Love it!

LovesLaboursLost · 18/03/2018 13:28

Yes, I think because it’s unusual more people will think you deliberately named her after an evil man in GOT.

LadyPug · 18/03/2018 13:28

Beautiful name. I had a Cornish girl work at the same company as me for a while called Merryn and she was lovely!

RavenWings · 18/03/2018 13:26

Nope. Merryn Trant as others said, or possibly a hobbit.

ClaudiaWankleman · 18/03/2018 12:46

Of course any name may have an evil character in a TV programme or book.

But Merryn is a much more unusual name, and I reckon the association will stick in people's minds much more than it would if the character's name was Ava...

Dixiestampsagain · 18/03/2018 11:12

That’s why I associate it with Cornwall Pelvic- I knew there was sowething!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 18/03/2018 11:01

❤️ Merryn.

Naberes · 18/03/2018 10:39

I love it but DH said no because of GOT Sad

ChocolateCrunch · 18/03/2018 10:25

I like Merryn.

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 18/03/2018 10:23

In Cornwall it's mainly associated with St Merryn Meat. This is not a good association.

OakIsBetterTho · 18/03/2018 09:49

Merryn is beautiful. Congratulations

user1498549192 · 18/03/2018 09:48

I think Merryn is lovely, and goes really well with Clara.

thepressureofaname · 18/03/2018 09:19

Hmm I guess any name can get negative associations with book/ tv characters.
I can live with it, and by the time she's at school the character will be long forgotten.

Ah damn, name change fail!

LovesLaboursLost · 18/03/2018 09:08

Crops post, Tino he’s evil and his name is repeated throughout several series as he’s on a major character’s list of people she wants to kill.

LovesLaboursLost · 18/03/2018 09:07

As long as you’re not Game of Thrones fans... Other than that, it’s pretty.

TinoTheArtisticMouse · 18/03/2018 09:06

I just had to Google that claudia - never seen GoT.
It's spelled differently. Is it a bad association? Google hits from 2015, so an old character.....

insancerre · 18/03/2018 09:05

Love it

ClaudiaWankleman · 18/03/2018 09:04

Trant?

LEMtheoriginal · 18/03/2018 09:04

Love it!
