Hector?

We already have an Arthur and are expecting DS 2. Only name we really both like is Hector. Are they too similar? Is Hector getting more popular?

Also loved Jasper but awful with our surname. Maybe Ernest?

DH likes Victor, Walter, Hugo.
I like Humphrey, Stanley.

Help!

I really like Hector and considered it for DS2 (he ended up Hamish) but we are in Scotland and it's maybe more of a traditional name here. A lot of people go on about Hector as a verb but I don't think it matters. Stanley is brilliant though, I'd have that with Arthur.

pigeondujour · 18/03/2018 10:07

Ignore the naysayers it's a brilliant name, so is Arthur and they go great together!

Heratnumber7 · 18/03/2018 10:05

Do you remember "Hector's House"?

TatianaLarina · 18/03/2018 10:01

Nope, when I said ‘the’ post I was referring to ‘my’ post.

Zeelove · 18/03/2018 09:58

No but it was the point of yours Hmm

TatianaLarina · 18/03/2018 09:57

If it was more common you’d have the world and his wife on her egging you on

Good point. Once someone else makes a name popular then it’s ok for conservative people to call their child. Just following the herd.

TatianaLarina · 18/03/2018 09:54

Also don't like the name Jayden or olly sorry

Which wasn’t the point of the post.

teenybean · 18/03/2018 09:51

Love Hector & Hugo! Both go lovely with Arthur, although I think Arthur & Hugo go slightly better that Arthur & Hector, but either works

FrostiesMum · 18/03/2018 09:51

I think Hector is a great name. If you like it then go for it!

If it was more common you’d have the world and his wife on her egging you on.

Hugo is also fab.

Minus2 · 18/03/2018 09:50

Don’t like it at all. Hugo is the best.

TaurielTest · 18/03/2018 09:49

My ds1 was 2 when ds2 was born and he suggested we call the new baby Hector. We did consider it - like the classical / Scottish connection - but I didn't like the connection with the verb to hector and we chose another name.
Then we found out ds1's inspiration had been Hector the Horrid in Thomas the tank engine!

Harveyrabbit76 · 18/03/2018 09:49

Hector is a great name and is definitely a person's name, one of the brothers in the story of Troy was called it. Also, most animal names are also humans', which do you think came first?!! I am thinking of it if I am lucky to get pregnant again (with a boy of course!!) :-)

Zeelove · 18/03/2018 09:48

Also don't like the name Jayden or olly Smile sorry

TatianaLarina · 18/03/2018 09:46

All very try hard to me

Yeah just call him Jayden or Olly OP.

TatianaLarina · 18/03/2018 09:45

I love Hector - Greek myth + classic Scots name. Win win.

user1498549192 · 18/03/2018 09:44

I'm not a huge fan of Hector, I'm afraid. I like Hugo and Stanley best of your other options.

Suggestions:

Sidney
Francis/Frank
Leonard
Wilfred
Frederick
Laurence
Felix
Eric

Hector is a great name!
I've been told it's a Dog/horse name, but it was a human name first! Hmm

Bananalanacake · 18/03/2018 09:30

Old fashioned ones are the best. I also like Horace.

Plasticgold · 18/03/2018 09:28

I really don't understand people coming on these threads to say 'its horrible', we all have different tastes in names- thankfully. If you've got something to say, be nice about it.

Toadsrevisited · 18/03/2018 09:09

Thanks Billy Hmm

AnyaMoondial · 18/03/2018 08:39

I like Hector but personally I think I'd feel like a wally shouting it across a park though.

MlleCoquelicot · 18/03/2018 08:37

Hector is a great name. Can’t stand Stanley.

Paleblue · 18/03/2018 08:28

Out of all the names I like Hugo best.
