Hector?

We already have an Arthur and are expecting DS 2. Only name we really both like is Hector. Are they too similar? Is Hector getting more popular?

Also loved Jasper but awful with our surname. Maybe Ernest?

DH likes Victor, Walter, Hugo.
I like Humphrey, Stanley.

Favourite book is "Hector and the Search for Happiness" so I love it.

I love Hector - I think it is due a comeback and is a nice change from Finlay and Calum/Callum. But I am Scottish so maybe a bit biased...

We have such similar name taste!!! Adore most of those, especially Hector and Hugo.
Hector is a fab name, it's cool and manly. I associate it with Hector of Troy - if you haven't already you should definitely watch the film with Eric Bana as it'll make you love the name more! I'm sure it's going to the be the new Hugo/Arthur, an unusual choice now but in 5 years you'll know quite a few babies with the name. Get on it now before it becomes more common!

Oh dear, I don't think we share taste in names even slightly, I almost wrote Hector is a name that needs to be left to die a death along with names like Humphrey & Walter & I've just spotted that you have those in your list too Confused

Hugo is okay though, I've known a couple of lovely Hugo's too

As a previous poster said it’s mostly a Latin American/Hispanic name here in the US. I like it. That association probably wouldn’t be so strong in the UK.

Hugo is very popular here. I like Hector a lot, but I wanted to call DS Horacio so might not be the best judge.

I love Hector! And think it's fine with Arthur.

I also like Victor but am not a fan at all of Walter, Hugo, Stanley or Humphrey.

I wouldn't go for another name ending in an 'er' sound if your older son is Arthur. I like Hugo best but think Ernest is interesting and after that Victor. I know quite a few Hugos and Stanleys, a couple of Hectors (both Latin American) and lots of Arthurs.

We nearly went with Hector, we like strong names, everyone we spoke to hated it. He didn’t look like a Hector though and we named him Roman instead. He was just ‘baby’for 2 weeks, maybe wait and see what he looks like!

Hector means harass to me. I would have been very embarrassed to have this name. Victor is better. The rest sounds like kids that get picked on.

Dislike Hector. It sounds like the name of a comedy character, though I couldn’t explain why.

Hugo is nice.

I know a 12yo Hector and a 17yo Hector. No animals.

I like your other listed names except Stanley, although i'm sure if i met your toddling 18mo Stanley i'd think it was adorable!

Hate hate hate Stanley. Victor isn’t much better. I don’t like Walter. I know someone with a Hugo and a Hector- both great names and definitely my favourites from your list! Hector clinches it for being a bit more unusual so would definitively be my top pick. Earnest and Jasper both nice too though.

The meaning of 'to hector' would put me off, as would the nickname Heck...!

I immediately think "Hector's House". My second thought is the two dogs I know named Hector
