Sebastian or Jasper?

Just that really.

I’m having trouble choosing between these two names after a lot of discussion to get here.
I really liked Gabriel, but was vetoed.

Jasper always immediately makes me think of Casper the friendly ghost. I don't know why but I can never get it out of my head. I prefer Sebastian out of the two.

The person who said that Jasper is slang for a wasp, where in the country is that from? Not heard that myself.

Seb reminds me of sebaceous, oily, so don't like it at all. And Basty is too close to bastard imo.

Don't think these names or their nicknames are wet! In particular Seb/Sebastian. Pretty and punchy.

Find jasper pretentious though - used to be a posh name and is now bit hipster/ironic

I absolutely love Sebastian, I know two- one is usually a Seb (14/15) and a Frenchman (gorgeous) called Bastian

I know someone with a 2y/o Jasper, who they've nicknamed Jazzy, which makes me smile 😊

Love Sebastian! The only one I know is a lovely little boy. Knew a Jasper growing up who was quite nice too - fabulous mop of red hair on him.

My DS has a MN-hated name. I see that as a positive Wink

I know a one year old Jasper who is big and bouncey and full of fun - a lovely little boy. So a great name.

I also like Sebastian as think ‘Seb’ would do him well into his teenage years and Sebastian would be good for a serious corporate job but ‘fun seb’ would be up for afterwork drinks.

So I love them both, which doesn’t help you. I know 2 Jaspers so based on that I’d say Sebastian.

Neither name sounds wet to my ear 😊

Yes, well luckily he will grow into a man and be a man longer than a baby, so...

Nice to hear from you Plausibe, glad you like your name and you’re not ‘wet’ (!).

Thanks all, I think hearing the negative comments and not being put off is a good thing.

I'm 6'3 and definitely not wet.

I get called Seb sometimes - Sebbo when I was 12 - but I've never had Basty. Or any untoward teasing based on my name.

Both names are lovely, OP. Although I admit I might be biased!

Jasper. I really dislike Sebby and not keen on the full Sebastian either (I think it is the ‘bast’ bit that sounds harsh).

Much prefer the vetoed Gabriel though!

God, some of you are hideous! Some of us actually have these names for our children, and to read that people think they sound "wet" is horrible.

OP; I wanted to call my youngest Jasper but my husband vetoed it. We called him Sebastian in the end! I love both names, but I'm slightly biased towards Sebastian!!

We call him all sorts. Sebastian, Seb, Sebbie, Sebastibobs, Sebbisobs.... the list goes on! You can have a lot of fun with this name.

I think there's only one other Seb in his whole school, and it's quite a big school. Don't think we have any Jaspers in the school.

Neither names sound "wet"..... Whatever that's supposed to mean.
