Middle name for Ella that ISN'T Grace, Rose or May?

Dc2 due in 4 weeks and unsure of sex. We really like Ella for a girl but are totally stuck for a middle name.
I don't really like all the names that seem to he used as middle names for everything (grave, may, rose are the ones that spring to mind) however we do want something that flows.
I really like Ella Nicole however Nicole is dh sisters middle name and he doesn't get on with her very well so isn't keen!
Any other suggestions? I don't like things that end in the same 'a' sound which rules out the likes of 'Olivia' etc.
Thanks

Why Ella?

If it has to be Ella (be aware she will be from a cohort with at least one other Ella, I'm not one for yooneek names, but Ella is massively popular and not a great name), then Celeste works well if you're basing it merely on cadence.

Why not go for Celeste as a first name?

She was my favourite ever Elephant.

Mol1628 · 18/03/2018 00:29

Ella Harriet is nice

chocatoo · 18/03/2018 00:23

Really like Ella Celeste as per second PP

On balance looking at the names I think Ella Camille looks the prettiest/classiest written down and is easiest to say. and I like the double LL in both names. It's meant to be lucky apparently.

SunnySunnyDay · 18/03/2018 00:20

Also:

Ella Camille

Ella Lucille

Ella Delphine

Ella Nadine

I think what you might like about Nicole and Louise is that the emphasis is on the second syllable of the name. That flows well with the emphasis on the fist syllable of Ella. EL-la ni-COLE.

I think Ella Louise is pretty but a bit of a tongue-twister because of the "LA-LOU-EE' element in the middle.

Ella Lucille has the same syllable formation but "La-Lu" in the middle, sharpened by the following "CILLE" instead of "EES' of Louise.

Ella Nadine rolls off the tongue easily, it's whether you like the Nadine element as much as other names.

Someone has already suggested it with a different spelling but Catherine jumped right into my mind when I read the title. Ella Catherine Jones/Smith/Browne/O'Sullivan works for me.

Anything beginning with L or with lots of L sounds doesn't sound right to me. I think Ella works best with a more substantial name next to it.

Best of luck.

I think something short goes nice with Ella, not too many syllables. I like
Ella Jo
Ella Jade
Ella Joy
I seem to have a 'J' theme going on lol

austenozzy · 17/03/2018 23:24

As pp have said, you’re not obliged to have a middle name. My DW doesn’t have one, neither does her sister. If there isn’t one that grabs you and there aren’t any to use in order to honour someone, then why have one that you may regret later?
