Really finding it hard to pick a girls name! What does everyone think of Edie?

I think it's too nicknamey and a bit bland. It merges with all the names like Ellie, Elsie, Evie, etc. I wouldn't put it on the birth certificate. Edina?

dingdongdigeridoo · 31/03/2018 13:47

It’s on our short list for girls along with Elsie. I really like Edie because of the Andy Warhol connection. It’s not overly girly either which I like.

linz0308 · 29/03/2018 15:17

i love it

Kittykatmacbill · 27/03/2018 07:56

I have an Edith. Other people call her edie, sometimes I write edë to annoy my dh!

BlackberryandNettle · 25/03/2018 17:18

I like it and another long version could be Elodie

tkband3 · 20/03/2018 13:30

I have an Edie...named after Edie Sedgewick and Edie and the New Bohemians (80s child). Love the name and it always gets compliments.

spiderlight · 20/03/2018 12:50

I love it (also love the Cult song!)

cookiescookiescookies · 20/03/2018 12:34

LOVE Edie, it's beautiful!

duckponds · 20/03/2018 10:17

We were going to call DD2 Edie, but in the end decided against it because we felt it was too nicknamy and couldn't find a longer version we liked. We also hated Edith! DP liked Elodie but I felt it a bit too contrived to call her something we'd never use, and was also worried she would become (another) Ellie

pipilangstrumpf · 20/03/2018 08:19

I much prefer Edith!

Gacapa · 20/03/2018 05:25

I have an Edie. Just Edie on birth certificate. Still absolutely adore it.

Snooks1971 · 19/03/2018 20:16

Edie was always on my list, mainly because of the absolute beauty of Edie Sedgwick, one of Andy Warhol's muses. Might not be aspirational as such but my god she was seminal!
In the end we both settled on Pearl Smile
Edie is a beautiful, underused name IMO, OP.

Crunchymum · 19/03/2018 20:08

@Lifeaback

Out of interest, how do you introduce your little one? (We introduce as Edith even though we call her Edie)

Greenyogagirl · 19/03/2018 17:29

Love Edie Smile

5LeafClover · 19/03/2018 17:21

Loved it, but OH vetoed it. Still think it's pretty.

Lifeaback · 19/03/2018 15:39

I have an edie (Edith on birth certificate) so I'm biased but I love it! We've had so many compliments on what a beautiful name it is, and I think it will travel with her perfectly as it's quite cutesy but also elegant and classy for when she's older

Crunchymum · 19/03/2018 13:18

We have an 8 week old Edith.

She is Edie mainly but Edith on BC.

pipilangstrumpf · 19/03/2018 12:38

Yes, Eadie is much more phonetic than Edie!

Snoopysimaginaryfriend · 19/03/2018 12:34

I have a Meredith and everyone calls her Edie

mischiefmanaged01 · 19/03/2018 10:16

Edie is on our list 😍

Winchester13 · 19/03/2018 09:49

Edie is a fab name :) did you watch Desperate housewives? I mainly know it from that !

BelfastSmile · 19/03/2018 09:46

I like it, but slightly prefer the spelling "Eadi" - it looks more like how I think it should be spelt!

pipilangstrumpf · 19/03/2018 09:03

Thanks Brutus. But when I see Ed or Edie my brain still thinks Ed-ie, but thanks for the explanation.

MikeUniformMike · 18/03/2018 18:54

I'm not keen - it's ok short for Eden but she will just get called Ede.
Could it be short for Edwina?

DuggeeHugs · 18/03/2018 18:50

Love Edie on its own and as a short form of Edith. Have also heard Edie as a nn for Meredith which worked well.
