Finnegan for a boy?

Just wanted thoughts on the name Finnegan? First baby ds due later this year. Always loved this name and dp onboard.

Yep it's a surname. Are you Irish? If not, why would you want to give your child a surname from another culture as its first name?

I think of Michael Finnegan begin again.

I love Finn, Fingal and Fintan, not liking Finnegan.

When I hear it I follow it up with 'wake' in my
mind, and that's despite the fact I know it as a surname.

So it's quite a maudlin, if literary, connection for a baby to carry around.

Agree with Drama, an Irish surname think Finn or Finley is much better sounding, Finnegan just seems a bit odd.

It's a surname here in Ireland. I've never seen it used as a first name. I don't like it, though I do like Finn very much.

But your baby, your choice.
