Elise is prettier. Also, Beethoven’s Für Elise is beautiful.

Buttercupaddict · 16/03/2018 22:43

I just love the song "Letter to Elise" by The Cure. So for that reason, Elise gets my vote. But you can't go wrong with either. Lovely names.

Dauphinois · 16/03/2018 18:16

Eloise - much nicer.

MilkyCoffeeAndSkinnySyrup · 16/03/2018 17:58

Elise

Proudmummy2MA · 16/03/2018 17:56

Lovely names but I prefer Eloise :-)

KatharinaRosalie · 16/03/2018 17:50

Either. Not Elouise though which is just too many unnecessary letters.

I have DD called Elise and she really matches the 'loads of trouble' description though Grin

diodati · 16/03/2018 17:48

Eloise

KittenBeast · 16/03/2018 17:45

Elise!

Enterthedragons · 16/03/2018 17:39

Elise by a mile. Don’t like Eloise

AnyaMoondial · 16/03/2018 17:38

I know one Elise (about 3yo), she pronounces it Eleece.

Not heard the eleeze version before.

Pemba · 16/03/2018 16:27

It's not really got anything to do with Louise. Hence it's spelled Eloise, with no 'u'. It comes from the French name Heloise (there's an accent on there I can't do).

Elise and Eloise are both lovely, but I think Eloise just pips it.

PeterRabbitEatingHisCarrot · 16/03/2018 10:02

Elise 100%
Elouise seems precocious and an attempt to make Louise more interesting/more 2018.

Minus2 · 16/03/2018 07:13

I know an El-eece

ChocolateCrunch · 16/03/2018 06:32

Definitely El-eeze, not heard it pronounced any other way.

penguinsandpandas · 15/03/2018 23:46

I have only heard it pronounced Eleeze and prefer that.

VioletteValentia · 15/03/2018 23:34

I prefer eleeze to eleece. I can’t say eleece Confused eleeze is much easier.

Lupiform · 15/03/2018 23:33

Well, there is a good reason not to pick Elise, following Mike's comments, as your daughter will clearly have to explain how to pronounce it. However, I think Elise pronounced Eleece very pretty and Elise pronounced Eleeze not pretty at all.

In the UK, I have only ever heard it pronounced Eleece. I am not 'getting' this from somewhere, just telling you what I have experienced.

thisismadness77 · 15/03/2018 23:18

Both lovely, I like Elodie as well.

Bouncingbelle · 15/03/2018 23:14

Both lovely but Eloise always spunds like Eh Louise? In my head so i would go for Elise. (Which i would have pronounced El-eez but after reading this thread actually prefer Eleece).
Really pretty name, wish i'd thought of it!

MikeUniformMike · 15/03/2018 23:13

It rhymes with Please not Fleece.
Please sounds different from Pleece.

No doubt someone will be along to correct me that it's really pronounced Brenda and they know 250 Elises.

Elise is El-eez in UK & France
El EEz-uh in Germany

Lupiform · 15/03/2018 23:01

I agree that in French it would have a z. But in English, I have never heard it pronounced other than with a soft s. No strong regional accent, no.

RockafellerSkank · 15/03/2018 23:00

Eloise.

MikeUniformMike · 15/03/2018 22:59

How do you get Eleece from Elise?
It's French.
If it was pronounced Eleece it would be spelt Elice.

Are you in a part of the UK with a strong regional accent?
