Thoughts on Matthew ?

We are expecting a baby boy in June. I love the name Matthew with either James or George as a middle name. Recently I seen a thread on here with names teachers dread . What do you think when you hear the name Matthew ?

I work with a few. All very nice. Great colleagues. Varying in ages from 30ish to 50ish. All called Matt. I like the name Matthew and the short form. James or George are great as middle names.

My dh is a Matthew and also shares one of the possible middle names you have suggested.

Lovely lovely name. I know some adult Matthews and matts and they are nice people, successful and quite handsome.
It has only good connotations for me. I can’t imagine it’s a name that would provoke very negative connotations for many people, perhaps a small bunch of people who had a bad experience with a Matthew but they would be a small handful.
It’s not a statement name. It doesn’t carry assumptions.
For most people I think it would have positive or neutral connotations with it.

Not come across a young Matthew in a very long time and I deliver babies! I can't even think of one younger than late teens. Gorgeous name and conjures up an image of a reliable, lovely gentlemanSmile

We have a Matthew. We know a lot of little children under 3 and haven't met another one yet!

I also know a lovely one in his thirties, and it was him I thought of when I saw the thread.
I knew a terrible one about 15 years back as well. But he was a Matt. The lovely one is always Matthew!

I like it - I'd have said it was a bit of a dad name though (as in lots of 30-50 year old Matthews, bit like calling your DD Claire or Sarah). Evidently not relevant in Scotland if it's a currently popular name.

I like it. Not that popular in my area but the one Matthew I have taught was a lovely boy.

I really like it. There is only one Matthew in our school and so I definitely don’t think it’s popular

My db( 37) is called Matthew. I work in child care and haven't come across any children called it tho. Know a few adults but not children. It's a nice name :)

Oh yes, a lovely name. I know two lovely boys with that name - a 13 Yr old Matthew, an 8 year old Matthew and an extremely handsome black Labrador called Matthew Grin

Thank you all for the comments., what a lovely bunch you are !
I am in Surrey and I haven't met any little Matthews. I am definitely leaning towards Matthew George, hopefully he will still look like a little angel when he is in year 7 !

Its a good, solid name and I know none under well probably adulthood. There was none in my kids at youth club so now teens nd none that I know of at my toddlers age. Whilst William in variations has been really (oddly) popular.
I know an Ian and a Neil of preschool age too

I have one! Most folk know how to spell it, no issues with pronunciation and he’s the only little one I know (central Scotland). Lots of adult ones in my circle at the moment who all think he’s named after them! I think as long as you accept he’ll be called Matt by his pals, it’ll be fine.
