Love both, but Violet edges it for me. Violet doesn’t have to be Vi, can also be Lettie or Ettie.

I would use the other as a middle name.

I love Iris. I like Violet too but that’ll be shortened to Vye at some point.

I have an Iris, so while that would always get the nod from me, I do adore Violet as well.

In fact, when my older sister used Violet on my 18yo DN, I was very disappointed. Then the tables turned, because I used Iris on DD1, who was born just three weeks before sister's second daughter. Unbeknown to me, sister and her DH had planned on using Iris. I'm just glad she didn't get to beat to me to both names!

Anyway, you can't go wrong with either, and there's no a huge difference in popularity (both are in the Top 100), so just go with what your heart tells you.

Iris is very pretty too though. If popularity is an issue for you then maybe it's best to go with it. We didn't realise how popular Violet was until we started looking at sites like these but by then we loved Violet too much to care.

It’s so close, Violet was a favourite for me with my dd but it was vetoed by my partner because... Charlie and the chocolate factory. A friend of my has the sweetest little Iris so was never an option for us, but love that too!
I’d say Iris is probably less common so I’d choose that 😀
