Baby with no name !!!

So I have a 3 week old dear little baby boy born Valentine's day... still without a name !

(poor bear !)

But I'm just really struggling to decide what to call him !

He has a 6 year old brother named Gabriel with whom I had no trouble naming whatsoever ( as it's my favourire boy's name)

I'm looking for something with a romantic link and I do like names with lovely meanings. Also something a little different but not too faddy/celeb..that can be shortened and something that stands up to Gabriel.

So .. my short list is...

Rafferty ( Raffy/Rafe)
Rafael (Raffy/Rafe) - son's favourite (Also an archangel like Gabriel)
Theodore (Teddy/Ted/bear) Means gift of god.. and is saintly
Roman (Romey/Rome/Manny) Valentines was a roman festival.
Romeo (Romey/Rome/Manny) obvious valentine link... but maybe too obvious !

Middle names - Would like to use William or Melvyn or both.. (Mine and partner's Dads)

And/or maybe a combination with the first names that don't get chosen.

ie. Rafael Theodore Melvyn Hopkins
Roman Theodore William Hopkins

I really would appreciate your feedback... as it's getting beyond silly now !

xxx Confused

Rafael!!!! Xx

If you refer to baby as bear people will think Liam & Cheryl. Or bear gryll
That may not be your intention but it’s pop culture reference
Maybe you decided on the diminutive without knowing about Cheryl & Liam’s bear
But other folk will make that Cheryl,Liam bear connection

strawberrypenguin · 10/03/2018 22:33

Of the names you've listed I'd go for Rafferty. I think Gabriel and Raphael are really difficult to say together although both lovely.

If you like 'old' names what about Ambrose?

Whatever he ends up being called he's gorgeous.

heateallthebuns · 10/03/2018 22:30

My dh has an uncle called Gabriel - he has brothers called Leo, Seamus, Malachy, Christian and Eoin. (Irish!)

TheMamaIsReal · 10/03/2018 22:30

Love Rafael :-) and Raffy, it was on my list too. We had a girl though ❤️

Dollymixture77 · 10/03/2018 22:26

@LipstickHandbagCoffee

hmmmmmmm !

Rafferty seems a little more rascal...
Raphael somewhat more wholesome

The bear thing it’s too celebrity, bit sycophantic. Makes me think Liam & Cheryl

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 10/03/2018 22:21

I love Valentine bear

Dollymixture77 · 10/03/2018 22:20

@Justgivemesomepeace

Also works in a court scenario, is your son the barrister or the accused...

Dollymixture77 · 10/03/2018 22:18

@LipstickHandbagCoffee

Smile Yes I've done said exercise..

And imagined them being called out for their first interview ...

I think it's ruled out Romeo and Valentine as first names for him ...

Gabriel is my favourite boys name and I immediately thought of Rafferty before I read your choices. I like Raphael too. I would be tempted to try and get Valentine in somewhere!

Dollymixture77 · 10/03/2018 22:13

@blinkineckmum

hehe

Because my partner is not so keen!

I'm going to show him this thread though...

It would seem Raphael is the people's choice...

I refer back to my previous post,call out the name loud.
I think a good name test,imagine yourself shouting (insert name) come on time to go
Think hard do you expect to see a child or big bounding dug approaching you
Romeo I’d expect an effete labradoodle not a wean
Cosmo, I’d expect a fluffy cat not a wean

bridgetreilly · 10/03/2018 22:13

Rafferty William Valentine.

Done.

Dollymixture77 · 10/03/2018 22:10

@Pandoraphile

My sister's cat is called Cosmo ! Smile

Gabriel and Raphael is perfect. Why are you dithering? Congratulations!

SpongeCake23 · 10/03/2018 19:53

Valentin (said as it spelt)

Pandoraphile · 10/03/2018 15:47

I think the thing with Valentine is that there's no immediately obvious nickname.

How about Cosmo?

TheDailyMailIsADisgustingRag · 10/03/2018 14:23

I like Raphael and Rafferty about the same. Raphael goes better with Gabriel I think. Raphael Theodore is very nice too.

PS: he’s gorgeous! Congratulations Flowers

ChocolateCrunch · 10/03/2018 14:19

Rafferty gets my vote for your gorgeous little boy. Congratulations!

Dollymixture77 · 10/03/2018 14:18

@elephanttrunks

Ah... another Shakespearean fan I see ❤

Its taken me 3 weeks to whittle down to this shortlist! You can't thrown another into the ring !

Just looks like you'll have to have another bub ! ;)

@dotdotdotmustdash

It is indeed a wonderful name :)

My nephew is William..

And partner's Grandad...

So we would really like to use it within the name..

So william is my little bear's birthday twin ! ❤

My Dad just turned 87 on Valentine's day, his name is William (Bill).

He's fairly fit and well so maybe it's a lucky name!

elephanttrunks · 10/03/2018 14:06

Lysander is my favourite boys' name and what I would have used if I'd had a boy (I have one 15yo DS named Finn). I had 4 girls after him so I'm dying for someone to use Lysander!
