Dh really likes the name winter for a girl and I do like it but our baby is going to be born in may so seems like an odd choice, I also really like summer and don’t mind autum but dh isn’t keen on either of these?

I like May, Mae, June (if born in June) or maybe Jane Summer or Hope. Not keen on winter especially for a summer baby.

heateallthebuns · 10/03/2018 22:54

I find Winter as a name a bit too austere.

EvadneBadne · 10/03/2018 20:47

Going against the grain. I think Winter is a lovely name!

bridgetreilly · 10/03/2018 00:59

Now is the Winter of our discontent...

lecossaise · 09/03/2018 15:38

I have a friend who is named after a month (more unusual than April or May) that she wasn't born in and she is asked about it All. The. Time. Save your daughter the hassle!

MrsDilber · 09/03/2018 15:36

My DD was born in a December, a mum in our ward had called her Daughter Winter. I don't think I'd call a summer baby, Winter, though.

LastNightsMakeUp · 09/03/2018 15:19

Winter in May... not for me. Willow?

cheesydoesit · 09/03/2018 12:07

I know two girls that are friends and their names are Summer and Winter. I kid you not. Met them years ago st a baby class and run about in the same circles. All I can think of when I hear her name being called out are the cheap gags she will get later in life...'winter is coming', 'discontent of winter', 'bleak midwinter' etc. I think while it looks nice written down it's not practical. But it's not my baby so it doesn't really matter.

blinkineckmum · 08/03/2018 22:13

I really don't like the season. Summer is much nicer!

CatsForgotPassword · 08/03/2018 22:04

I like it, and I don’t think it matters if she’s born in may.

I might assume she’s American but that’s it!

SumAndSubstance · 08/03/2018 10:30

Generally I am uptight about this sort of thing (I think a boy named Rufus should have red hair, for example), but I actually don't think it matters whether you are born in the correct season for your name - just as I think an 'April' can be born in any month. I know an Autumn and I've never thought about when her birthday is. I actually quite like Winter as a name, but I do also love the season too and a lot of people don't, which might make them see the name differently.

stellarfox · 08/03/2018 10:01

I like it but not if she’s born in the spring. Agree that May would be lovely!

Topseyt · 08/03/2018 02:48

No. Not for me.

To me it isn't a name at all. It is a horrible, cold and dark season.

TheDowagerCuntess · 08/03/2018 02:39

December is Summer in many parts of the world!

pepperpop · 07/03/2018 21:23

I like it! I agree it would be a bit odd for a baby born in May, however.

MikeUniformMike · 07/03/2018 21:03

of discontent

DinoToes · 07/03/2018 19:44

Look up the old threads from the poster Linguaphile she had some lovely ideas and suggestions on her threads.

MissBartlettsconscience · 07/03/2018 19:21

It's the name of the very cool heroine of an m m Kaye book so I like it.

flumpybear · 07/03/2018 19:19

Hhhmmmm how about May? Hmm

may isn't winter so seems a bit weird but if you're not worried about looking a bit strange ie just saying 'because we like the word' then go for it

BewareOfDragons · 07/03/2018 19:14

Please tell me it's not so he can say, "Winter is coming." And snicker.

NewYearNiki · 07/03/2018 19:08

I knew a Summer who had a December birthday.

It really doesn't matter.

Nice name.

grasspigeons · 07/03/2018 19:07

I know a Winter-May

TheDowagerCuntess · 07/03/2018 19:04

Actually as a middle name, it's a lot cooler (ha!). Way better than the usual filler - Rose / Grace / May type names.

TheNailClippersAreBlunt · 07/03/2018 18:32

I like it as a middle name. I remember ages ago there was a thread with a lady who was having twins, one of the names was Vivienne Winter, I thought that was beautiful.

DramaAlpaca · 07/03/2018 16:25

It's a season or a surname to me.
