Thoughts on Ewan

What are your thoughts on Ewan? How to you picture a Ewan to be? Any preference on spelling? Do you know any?

Eoghan is pronounced Owen

That’s why I assumed Eoghann must be like Eoin, (also pronounced Owen). It was definitely pronounced Ewan / Euan though, by this little boy’s parents. I got corrected.

Eoghan is pronounced Owen not Ewan.

I like Euan spelling better than Ewan but it doesn't matter which way!

My nephew is a Ewan and he's one of my favourite people. Cute as a button, noisy and has pockets full of Lego.

I also met a Eoghann (I think that was the spelling) in Edinburgh. I’m Irish and assumed it was pronounced like Eoin, but the boy’s dad corrected me.

The two adult Euan / Ewans I know are super prissy and uncool. Also huffy and unpleasant.

I do know a toddler Euan too though and he’s very cute.

Eoghan is an Irish name Fairfax, it’s Anglicised to John or Owen usually. The closest English pronounciation is Owen.

I know loads of them. Ewans always wear fleeces and hiking boots to the pub. Never cool, always sensible.

I have a Ewan, he's 10! Named primarily after Ewan McGregor. He's full of beans, has a great sense of humour and has a lot of friends Smile

Prefer "Euan" because it avoids the "ew" (as in "yuck") spelling.

It's a nice name.

I like it. I don't know any but I know an Euan (Scottish) and a few Iwans (Welsh). I'd say maybe it's a bit dated in Wales.

The only Ewans I have met were barristers (although this is probably to do with the company I keep). I think it’s nice and neutral. It won’t sound out of place if they end up in a high powered job but doesn’t sound ‘try hard’ like Sebastian and other posh names.

Lovely name. It’s unusual but not too outlandish. But then i’m very biased as I have a gorgeous cheeky Ewan myself.

I love the name Ewan. I think of a dark haired boy with a cheeky glint in his eye. I know several aged 45 -4. Strangely all 3 of my kids have had a Ewan /Euan in their classes at school. I don't think it is actually all that common, it just seems to crop up a lot at their school! (Central belt Scotland). I like the spelling Ewan. Ewen is more of a surname spelling. Euan always makes me thing French but I don't know why.

Wow alot of mum's with little Ewan's on mumsnet. I also saw it as a pretty uncommon name. I've never met one myself

I have a Ewan so obviously I love it! I prefer the spelling Ewan rather than euan, always felt it 'looked' nicer.

I have a little Ewan 💙 he’s 3. We get lots of compliments on his name, we love it as it’s not too common but not too out there. And it was a good compromise on my partners name suggestion of ‘obi wan kenobi’ for a little boy 🤔😂

Ewan McGregor probably means that spelling is more likely to be the default spelling, but I think I prefer Euan. Nice name either way.

I personally prefer Euan but it’s a great name.
