Wilf as stand alone name.

Just that really. Does Wilf work as a stand alone name or does it sound ‘incomplete’ to you? I like Wilf but I’m going off Wilfred.

I like it (wouldn’t call my own child it though!!) The Unmumsy Mum has just called her third child Wilf so I am expecting a few more to follow!!

I think Wilf sounds like a name in it's own right. I like it a lot.

I agree with the comment 're old men`s names! Again sorry, but I even prefer John or something like that. FWIW my dear late dad had quite an unusual name and as much as I love him I just couldn't saddle any child of mine with it. In fact he didn't use the name, people didn't know the name he used wasn't his real name!

Sounds incomplete to me. Wilfred with wilf as nn is better imo

I think Wilf sounds weak too. Maybe it's because it ends in an f it just 'ffffffs away into nothing.

Can you actually imagine saying that to someone's face? That's the whole point of the baby names board - you can find out what people will really be thinking about the name you think is fabulous.

OK we won’t go for Wilf on it’s own but we aren’t discounting Wilfred.
Yes some rude comments but that’s what MN can be like. I don’t mind if you don’t like it-I probably don’t like your children’s names either🤷🏻‍♀️

I don't like Wilf or Wilfred ( sorry!) It reminds me of something unpleasant , again sorry. But in general I think giving short versions is not a good idea as the child has less choice in future.

It could be complete but what immediately springs to mind for me is MILF and similar acronyms... not really ammunition that you want to be giving future classmates. Could be that I’m a bit young to know many Wilfred’s but the full name didn’t even occur to me just from the title.

Also have the reading tree association from primary school.
