So having decided on Tasmin, our dd hugged my tummy today and said "My Darla". Meant darling of course but after a quick Google I found it's a real old English name. DH and I jokingly said dd's named her sister but it's really grown on both of us and it's a cute story to tell her when she's older. We don't discuss names with others IRL so what do you think of Darla? DD is Nancy and I really like the way they sound together...I think!

Tasmin’s a name.

NeverTwerkNaked · 28/02/2018 19:55

Surely “Tasmin” was a typo and you meant “Tamsin” op?
I love Tamsin but do quite like Darla too, it’s quirky but also recognisable. I wouldn’t worry about the nemo/buffy references at all.

Genius Smile

BroomstickOfLove · 28/02/2018 19:22

Too many awesomes, there. Thinking g about Buffy has apparently sent me back to the nineties.

BroomstickOfLove · 28/02/2018 19:21

I think it's an awesome name, but that's partly because I was all ready to dress up as Darla from Buffy for a Halloween party when I went into labour with DD. I'm still a bit disappointed that I didn't get to show off my awesome costume because I was too busy having a baby.

💖 love it. Cute story too. Names sound lovely together better than Nancy and Tasmin🤔 xx

ActualMermaid · 28/02/2018 18:15

Adorable. Grin

Cyclewidow46 · 28/02/2018 17:51

Lovely!

RachelRosie · 28/02/2018 17:45

I love it. Darla and Nancy together works really well. I prefer it to Tamsin too. Definitely go for it

TheJoyOfSox · 28/02/2018 17:39

Darla is a lovely name, I’ve never heard it before but think it’s 💕 and it’s a beautiful story to tell when your dc are a bit bigger.

SongforSal · 28/02/2018 17:29

I really like it.

My eldest named her brother in a similar fashion. At aged 4 she would always refer to my bump as a character name she liked on TV.

The name stuck as we said it so much the when DS was born we literally could not associate any other name with him!

DP named our DD. Our DD named our DS.

At least I got to name the bloody cat.

Dcdfcdfc · 28/02/2018 17:28

It won’t work if your surname begins with K.

NotTheFordType · 28/02/2018 17:28

I like it, and it's reminded me that I chose my little sister's name! I haven't thought of that in probably a decade. Warm happy thoughts :)

BeTheHokeyMan · 28/02/2018 17:21

Love Darla, not a fan of Tasmin

Ohyesiam · 28/02/2018 17:21

I know a Romanian girl called Darla.
Name genius.

purplemunkey · 28/02/2018 17:17

I think its a lovely name. And a lovely story to go with it.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 28/02/2018 17:17

Nancy goes nicer with Florence, Tabitha, India, Beatrice, Eliza, Harriet, Isabella, Juliet, Lyra, Pearl, Iris, Martha, Matilda imo.

I honestly think once the pregnancy hormones have dissipated you'd think wtf have I just called my daughter!

FairyFantastic · 28/02/2018 17:16

Nancy & Darla, it's genius

Lucked · 28/02/2018 17:10

Genius.

pieceofpurplesky · 28/02/2018 17:10

I know a Darla - she is gorgeous. The names Darla and Nancy go really well together

UterusUterusGhali · 28/02/2018 17:08

Tasmin and Nancy are too similar with their short "a"s.

Darla is perfect! And a lovely story. As long as you don't call DC3 "stinky poo head" at Darla's request. Grin

ShyPhilosopher · 28/02/2018 17:05

Unfortunately I have only ever heard the name Darla used twice. First time was for a nasty vampire in Buffy, second time for the fish killing niece in Finding Nemo. I am guessing quite a few people will think of one or the other (or both).
