Thoughts on Valentina?

And would you expect a girl called Valentina to be a particular nationality?

It makes me think of love and valentines day. All positive stuff. I don't really think of a place at all. I do love the name and know of 2 boys with the males versions of the name.

I personally would keep name choosing between yourself and your partner. What family think does not matter.

I think I thought it was Russian, but it wouldn't sound out of place in the UK - it's only as long and exotic sounding as Gabriella, which seems quite popular at the moment.

Not sure if I would use a short form as I think the full Valentina is more attractive than any other version, but as others have said, one might evolve as you get to know her!

I have a Valentina in the family her mums English & dad is Greek so I'd always assumed it was a Greek name Confused very pretty name too... the other 2 girls are Florendia & Estelle. Always loved all their names!

It's beautiful. I would assume Russian or Italian, but as a Latin name I think we British can claim it as part of our shared European heritage! Strange it isn't more popular here.

Valentina is my favourite girls' name in the world. Unfortunately DP doesn't like it.

I would have used the nickname Leni.

I know a Valentina. The person I know is Romanian and I think it is a very popular name there. Love it.

Valentina was first on our list for DS2 (but was a boy instead!) and I was going to use the nickname Leni - my mum is Lenore nn Leni so it was a nod to her without actually naming her Lenore.

I love Valentina, it's a stunning name!

Beautiful name, I would think maybe her parents had some Spanish or Italian in them but wouldn't seem strange or surprising if not.

Titi is a reasonably common diminutive for the name in DH’s home country. So is Tinka!

Valentina is lovely as a full name. Titi is a crap nickname.

Nick names come naturally, they are not supposed to be planned.

The one I knew was shortened to Vale pronounced (rather beautifully when with an Italian accent) Val-eh
