Fallen out of love with my DC's name

I don't like it at all now, really.

DH does

I loved it when pregnant.

But did think when he was born that he didn't suit it much/I didn't like the sound of it.

But couldn't change it because DH and I had bonded over the name.

Anyone else feel the same way?

I never lived my son’s name, didn’t hate it, but simply felt detached from it. DH adored it, and I didn’t have a deep love for another, so agreed.

DS changed it in his 20s

Is he called Vermeer, Van Dyck, Velazquez or should I keep guessing?
If it is what I think it is, it's fine, quite popular with a cute nn (and a not so cute one). It's ok to have doubts. You'll probably love it again soon.

I know a V whose parents called him Inchworm as a child (???!). He used the first syllable only as a teen and was a seriously cool guy, but not in a deliberate way, iyswim. He now uses his full name as an adult (except when people call him Inchworm)

Well user, Chento sounds bloody gorgeous as a nickname! Going to have to look that one up and find out proper pronunciation

It's a fab name but not really a cute small baby name so I can see why you are struggling. Give it another few months and his personality will be shining through more and he will suit the name much better.

It was on my list for DS2 and I love it. Everyone we told about it loved it too. It is a bit marmite though to be fair, as a pp mentioned so I can see why you are doubting it. It's also hard for a baby to pull off a very adult name - my DS1 is Magnus and it seemed a very 'big' name when he was 6lb, but now he's nearly three he wears it really well.

I think it's a great name and it has a cute nickname anyway! Imagine him at 20 rather than at 14 weeks - he will be an adult way longer than he's a child and the name will feel different then.

Agree, it’s such a great name! If you definitely can’t change it I’m sure your son will grow into it and eventually you won’t be able to imagine him suiting anything else.

Makes me think of the Vega character from Pulp fiction. This is not a bad thing.

Kids grow in to their names - by the time he’s 6 months you won’t be able to imagine him being anything else!

I knew a super Italian-Armenian V. who went by the nn pronounced as Chento (guess spelling might have been Cento as Italian, but who knows). It always sounded uplifting, and not at all like V. Maybe try that and see if it fits?

I love the name OP. Your DS has a full name and there are lots of shortenings, so he can choose depending on what he wants when he's older.

That's a cool name
I didn't like DS's name when I had him but sort of reluctantly agreed to it. I was a bit out of sorts at the time and someone in close family had just used my favourite name and I felt I then couldn't.
In the end I'm very glad DS has that name it suits him and he likes it as well.

Really love the name, sorry you're having second thoughts but I think it's a good one. Less widely used but not quirky, slightly more traditional but not boring or stuffy.

But that's only because that generation aren't old enough to be CEOs yet. There will be, I guarantee you. And judging by when I had my son in fragrant north London, there will be an influx of high court judges called Poppy and Elsie and Mabel.

If you’d called him something really popular you’d be fretting about why you hadn’t had the imagination to go with something else.

Some of my DC have names which were unusual when they were born but really common at nursery now. Not these names but names like Noah, Felicity, Lily.

People raised their eyebrows at the time which seems funny now.
You are probably at the start of a wave.

Don’t wake him up if he’s putting on weight. Anyway he might start that all by himself

It's a lovely name OP - cool and classic at the same time. If your DH won't change then maybe you can come up with an unrelated nickname in the meantime?
