Fallen out of love with my DC's name

I don't like it at all now, really.

DH does

I loved it when pregnant.

But did think when he was born that he didn't suit it much/I didn't like the sound of it.

But couldn't change it because DH and I had bonded over the name.

Anyone else feel the same way?

I picked DS name, DP had absolutley no choice as I’d had th name in my head since I was 15.not that he really cared about names, he was happy they were having his surname and he knew it was hard enough to match something with it being so awkward. He chose DD name after the name I wanted didn’t sound good with surname, I gave him a list of my favourite names and luckily he chose my 2nd favourite 😂

Lovely name, now that I have figured it out. I didn't think of first names, so thought you'd gone for Vermeer or Velasquez, and thought you were trying a bit too hard.

bellie710 · 25/02/2018 21:16

I picked DD1's name and loved it, DH picked DD 2's name and I hated it but couldn't think of a better name. Now I absolutely love it, it is very unusual and people always comment on what a lovely name it is but it did take until she was about 6 months for me to love it!

LauraO1905 · 25/02/2018 08:18

I really like that name.

Please don't wake a 14 week old to feed. My DDs both slept through from 8-10 weeks and we didn't wake them. They're fine.

RosesForBadgers · 25/02/2018 08:15

We chose an unusual name for DD but I lost my nerve just before birth. Without another first choice we decided to wait til she was born. She looked like a squashed frog when she born and we were no closer to a name. Eventually, after six days of no sleep and tripping on oxytocin we chose a very flowery, girly name “as pretty as my baby”. It never suited her though and the NNs weren’t right either. We tried to get used to it but both DH and I felt that we should have gone with our original choice. We just couldn’t shake it and eventually at eight months we officially changed it, keeping the “wrong” name as a middle name. She was fine and after a bit of teasing and confusion everyone else accepted it, though DH’s family took a while. DD is 3.5y now and we’ve never regretted making the change. If you really, really feel like it’s the wrong name then it’s not too late - 14 weeks is bog all in the scheme of things.

Please OP, You must go and see” Loving Vincent” it will wipe all your doubts away, and take hankies!

doctorcuntybollocks · 24/02/2018 23:10

Is it possible he just has too many ears for his name?

CoolCarrie · 24/02/2018 23:08

That name is classy, uncommon and lovely , a wonderful painter had that name, if it’s the one I am thinking of, and there is a film named after him out at the moment which is absolutely beautiful, and it is my DS middle name after the painter, so stick with it!

MsJuniper · 24/02/2018 23:02

My son has a similar type of name and I really struggled with it, you don't get the same "oh so cute" reactions as you would with a Harry or Charlie. I got words like "unusual" and "old fashioned" which was fine in the sense I knew the name was like that, but it did take the shine off a bit.

goldentriangle · 24/02/2018 22:49

It's a great name. I don't like my daughters name and she's 14. I've felt like this for 12 years .

FeedtheTree · 24/02/2018 22:44

I love Enzo as a nickname for it.

mathanxiety · 24/02/2018 22:42

I knew an Italian who went by Enzo, which is used as a modern day shortening for his V name.

The name is Vinko in some Balkan country, maybe Croatia?

FrozenMargarita17 · 24/02/2018 22:38

Not the same but I HATE one of DDs middle names. My husband asked me to put it in when we registered her 3 days after she was born. I was ill with an infection and had spent the entire morning crying. I was an emotional mess and I said yes because I felt bad.

I ignore it entirely now.

Is there a way you could make a nickname up that you like and use that instead? And his official name be just for paperwork?

Namethecat · 24/02/2018 22:35

I'm a firm believer that children ' grow ' into their names so whilst xyz seems a bad choice in a few months / year you couldn't imagine them being any thing else.

WaxOnFeckOff · 24/02/2018 22:32

My Ds slept through the night in hospital and mostly from then on in, no-one batted an eyelid or I think even noticed. DS2 was very similar but did have some nights where he just fed all night.

I'm going to sound really thick here but would you have changed your child's name on their first birthday??

By the time my son was one he had a bank account set up, a passport, dentist records, doctors records not to mention the fact that his name had been in place with friends and family for a whole year. They'd had thought me and DH were losing the plot if we decided to change it. I also don't know how people would remember to call him by his "new" name.

expertonnothing · 24/02/2018 22:23

I think Vincent is a lovely name.

Call him Vinny/Vinnie or Vince.

MeadowHay · 24/02/2018 22:22

I think for a littl'un I would like Vinnie, sounds cute, but for a teen/adult the full name is lovely. Obv up to you what you do but it's a great name.

CatherineUC · 24/02/2018 22:05

I really like it! :)

lucy101101 · 24/02/2018 21:57

My DH wasn't sure about our DS's name... so we agreed that on the day before his 1st birthday (when it is still easy to change) we wold revisit it and see how he felt. He decided that he did like it after all and didn't want to change it but I think it was helpful that he didn't feel 'stuck' with it.

Figureof80 · 24/02/2018 21:45

I agree that is a great name, dunno why but it makes me think of hard boiled Raymond Chandler type 1930s PIs.

Butterflyhulk · 24/02/2018 21:28

I lived that name and wanted to call my ds that but OH wouldn't agree, still love it now
also my DD slept through from birth (she was premature) the midwife said I had to wake her every 3 hours to feed and as I was young and she was my first I listened and set an alarm for every 3 hours during the night and I have never felt so exughsted in all my life, I can actually remember one night snoozing the alarm and waking up 15 min later in total panic, jumping off my bed whilst yanking my t-shirt off trying to get her to latch on asap then once she was actually latched on I sat there and thought to myself she's not going to die if I don't feed her exactly every 3 hours and surely if she was hungry she would of woke me, after that panic and having a word with myself I decided to turn the alarms off and just follow her lead and she slept through since then(think it was at about 6 weeks)
Sorry just realised I've gone on a bit off subject x

raspberrysuicide · 23/02/2018 14:39

My first dd was a very good sleeper. Although my health visitor made me wake her up after she had been asleep for 8 hours !

mimibunz · 23/02/2018 13:51

Oh, duh! Sorry, all, I’m just being a dimwit.

mimibunz · 23/02/2018 13:51
