Between two boy’s names

Just found out we are having a little boy. Have a DS already, who has a fairly uncommon one syllable welsh name.

Name choices are Evander or Cassius. I appreciate they are quite full on, but we would only use an abbreviation day to day, probably Evan / Cass. The longer versions would just give him choice later on.

Any preference?

Evander/Evan is my definite preference!

PinkFlamingo888 · 19/02/2018 07:46

I had to sit by a Cassius when I was in school and he was the sort of boy who would throw a chair at the teacher. I know another, younger Cassius and he was also a little shit who ended up getting expelled. So to me Cassius will always be naughty, I know that’s a generalisation but they’re the only 2 Cass’s I’ve known.

MMcanny · 18/02/2018 20:28

Both lovely. Sorry, no help!

Lifeofpies · 18/02/2018 20:27

You’re right, cosmoa - I hadn’t heard, and I imagine it’s only on people’s minds because it’s recent.

movablefeast - Evander Holyfield and Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali). I hadn’t twigged until DH mentioned it!

Oh who cares about the Rooney's!

It's not like the child will be famous forever or talked about often... People don't mention the beckhams every time the name Harper is mentioned!

Asmallrole · 18/02/2018 18:34

Evan by miles. Even more so since the Rooneys had Cass Mac

Movablefeast · 18/02/2018 18:31

Both boxing names?

Lifeofpies · 18/02/2018 18:27

It’s shame about the Rooneys - I don’t follow sleb news so hadn’t heard. But it is putting me off Cass slightly (at the moment).
Evander is also a boxing name, not that that is why we chose it! It has Greek/Roman and Celtic origins.

Evander/Evan by a long way. Never heard of Evander but like it!

Personally I would've avoided Cassius anyway due to boxing link but the Rooney issue makes it a definite no.

CPtart · 18/02/2018 18:19

Evan, dislike Evander. Would avoid Cass due to the Rooney link!

Snowysky20009 · 18/02/2018 18:11

I love Evander!

Barre · 17/02/2018 22:54

Love Cassius and especially Cass (damn you Rooneys!)

Buntysoven · 17/02/2018 22:49

Love Cassius. Such a cool name sake too...

Cosmoa · 17/02/2018 21:27

Cassius by miles! I've contemplated the name Cassia for my girl Smile

howthelightgetsin · 17/02/2018 21:09

Evander.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 17/02/2018 21:00

I love Evander, nn Van.

Lifeofpies · 17/02/2018 20:44

Thank you all, more positive response than I was expecting. Will probably do as you say, user and see which suits him more, though I might have been swayed if there had been a particularly strong response

ChocolateCrunch · 17/02/2018 20:37

Evander, but I do like Cassius too.

SuperBeagle · 17/02/2018 20:19

Evander is a great name.

Willswife · 17/02/2018 19:27

Not mad keen on either but think Evander out of the two.

AnthonyJoshuasMrs · 17/02/2018 19:24

Evander. Lovely.

user1459464195 · 17/02/2018 19:11

Oh I love both..... tough choice! I'd say I prefer Cassius today but might well prefer Evander tomorrow. Grin Maybe wait and see what suits him more when he's born?

SpottyBrolly · 17/02/2018 18:55

Well they're both boxing names, so good choice. Of the two I prefer Evander. You might also like Rockingham shortened Rocky.

Snowydaysarehere · 17/02/2018 18:41

Sylvester??

PositiveVibes18 · 17/02/2018 18:35

Cassius
