Rufus? Rex?

I love Rex! And Rafe too. Not so much Rufus, despite it making me think of the gorgeous Rufus Sewell.

My partner likes Troy so between that and me liking Rex, a future son is not going to escape having a “dog” name. Granted they’re arguably dogs names from different ends of the social scale

I liked Rufus, but we decided against it as thought it sounded too much like a dogs name. Not keen on Rex. Sorry.

I tend to decide which people are knobheads when their unpleasant or judgmental behaviour reveals them to be so rather than based on their names.

I think I quite like posh wanker names too. Sadly not rich or posh though!

I wouldn't worry about it.. Poppy is super popular and so is Felix but they're often pet names. Who cares?! I'm thinking of using the name Marley which is also a pets name to some (or a reggae legend to others ) it really doesn't bother me though..

There are also lots of dogs called Dave 😂

Two of my all time favourite names. Yes they are very popular dog names. All my children have dog/cat names, I just like them all for some reason. You will never find a name liked by everyone. Choose something you both like, not everyone else.

I think they're both OK, actually. I think Rex has more of the dog about it than Rufus, though. However, I do think of Rex Harrison and that has a good vibe about it and I could be persuaded. Rudolph?

ha! I have a 6yo Rufus ... all my kids have posh wanker names that was actually one of my naming criteria

I have a suspicion it might become popular though.

Lol! No I'm in a pretty good mood OP, just hate those snotty boys names. They sound like they belong to knobheadish men who would be a bit self obsessed and precious. I like Rufus Wainwright's music but hex a bit precious tbh. I prefer the music of his mum and aunt anyway.

I don't like the name Ruben. I would spell it Reuben and definitely not Rueben. It seems wishy washy.

Having read everyone’s comments I’m not convinced they’re the names for us. I don’t know what is though! I guess I’m wanting universal approval but that equals a different sort of name to the ones that appeal to me. Hmm. Back to the drawing board. Thanks all.

They're not horrid but I wouldn't use them. Or Sebastian or Jadon, Jackson, Harrison etc.
I like Rex and Rufus but the OP had a point.

My boyfriend when I was in 6th form was called Rex. I don't have any issue with it as a name. I quite like it.

BUT whenever I mentioned him people ALWAYS thought I was talking about my dog, not my boyfriend.

I also don't much like Rufus. Rhymes with doofus and whilst I adore Rufus wainwright it makes me think of Rufus hound which I'm less keen on.

What about Ruben?

Dogs are called things like Alfie, Archie, Bertie and Stanley these days.
