What do you think? Surname will be Black.

He likes Eric Arthur but I'm not so keen.

Archie is quite a well known Scottish name I think.
A character called Archie features in Hormblower if anyone ever watched that!
My partner's father's family are Scottish so I thought Archie William was very Scottish sounding (his dad is called William).

Mealy, we're not saying a boy named Archie is cutesy, we're saying that names like Alfie, Archie etc sound cutesy rather than solid/strong.

Eric is much nicer.

I don't like Archie because it's cutesy & nicknamey. And the name it's derived from, Archibald, is awful.

I'm not keen on both Eric and Black ending in the same sound. Archie Black is fab.

Archer is nice. Archie by itself is OK though.

Eric is better than Archie, which is diminutive and cutesy. Archer? Not the sort of name I'd normally go for, but it sounds rather good to me.

Yep, Archie is too cutesy, same vein as Charlie, Freddie, Alfie, Albie, etc etc. Somewhat insubstantial and will date. William is gorgeous.
William Eric or William Arthur. Archie doesn't fit with any of those.
