What do people think of Red or Redmond for a boy? I saw the American Red Gerard win Gold in the slopestyle snowboarding today. I hadn't heard the name before but like it.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
TheHandmaidsTail · 12/02/2018 00:33

We have a Redvers in our family nn Red

windchimesabotage · 12/02/2018 00:32

I really like it!

MollyHuaCha · 12/02/2018 00:27

Don't really like Red. Sorry...

mummytwoh · 12/02/2018 00:19

Whilst deciding on a name for my son I called him red (because of his complexion) it really grew on me.
I'm not hippy enough to use it unfortunately & it would make no sense with my other children's names but I love it

Ffeyone · 11/02/2018 23:25

I heard of a 5 year old Redvers recently, shortened to Red , it’s an old English name.

Fekko · 11/02/2018 23:22

Simply Red?

I just Googled it - Red Adair’s name is Neil.(Don’t google Reds Addaire...)

mikeyssister · 11/02/2018 23:19

They used to be an American firefighter called Red Adair. Always thought that was a cool name.

SeamusMacDubh · 11/02/2018 22:28

There was an old Irish man called Redmond who was heavily involved in my church growing up, he was really grumpy and rude and rather a hideous person to be honest.

The name is normal and Red is a nice shortening of it though.

Quickerthanavicar · 11/02/2018 22:11

I'll have some of whatever you're drinking.

Womble75 · 11/02/2018 21:55

My dog is called Red. Reddington is his full name as a massive Blacklist fan.
Not sure about Red for a baby though 🤔

drumandthebass · 11/02/2018 21:53

Hate it. It reminds me of a lot of other crap American names like
Chuck or Chad

FizzyGreenWater · 11/02/2018 21:50

Great, but I'd give a longer full name.

Quite like the idea of Rufus nn Red!

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 11/02/2018 21:11

My first thought was Red Alderton, so I don't like it...

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 11/02/2018 21:06

Dh's cousin is Redmond. Red is his nickname. I think it's a great name. He is a very cool guy and I think it really suits him.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 11/02/2018 21:01

I quite like it.

After all there are plenty of Rubys Ambers
and Siennas running around all colour names.

EveryoneTalkAboutPopMusic · 11/02/2018 21:01

Glad I’m not the only one who instantly thought of Fraggle Rock. Now I’ve got the theme tune going through my head.

Yettilegs11 · 11/02/2018 21:01

I quite like it maybe spelt as Redd..

Or...

Rede
Redi
Redge

FindingNormal · 11/02/2018 21:00

Live it. Was my 'boy' name but I had 2 girls instead.

Wolfiefan · 11/02/2018 20:59

Only if you plan a big family and also have a:
Yellow
Pink
Green
Orange
Purple
And green!Grin

Petalflowers · 11/02/2018 20:56

I thought it was quite cool also, and well done on Red on getting the gold.

Elfyn · 11/02/2018 20:55

I like Red, not keen on Redmond — seems more like a surname than a first.

FlyingSoloFlyingFree · 11/02/2018 19:57

Knew this would be about the snowboarder.

Makes me think of Jilly Cooper! But I do love it and think it’s cool although I knew someone irl and his name was sometimes misheard as Reg - not quite so cool 😂

Charismam · 11/02/2018 19:56

Redmond is a normal name. Red short for redmond is not too weird for an interview!! 🤣

southboundagain · 11/02/2018 19:54

I think Red as a name would be weird in job interviews (especially if ginger as it does sound like a nickname) but Redmond or Redford shortened to Red sound good. You'd also need to be careful if your last name is a noun or sounds like one - I knew someone whose full name was something like Blue Robin and it came off as very twee.

MikeUniformMike · 11/02/2018 19:54

Redford
