What do people think of Red or Redmond for a boy? I saw the American Red Gerard win Gold in the slopestyle snowboarding today. I hadn't heard the name before but like it.

My friend has a Redmond (nn Red) I love it!

ajb17 · 12/02/2018 23:50

Love it!

PinkFlamingo888 · 12/02/2018 23:37

I have a friend called Red, short for Redford. He’s really cool and to me it just seems like a normal name.

ScattyCharly · 12/02/2018 23:23

I’d go with Fred nn Red

I think that Red alone is a bit out there and Redmond is much more of a surname. At least Fred could go with the cool “Red” but have a more usual name if needed.

HolyShmoly · 12/02/2018 23:21

I thought all Reds were normally nicknamed because of their hair...

I'm Irish and know several Raymonds but no Redmonds.

Orangewinegum8481 · 12/02/2018 23:11

I love the name Red!

NotAnotherEmma · 12/02/2018 21:03

I like Redmond, Red will be a natural nickname.

badg3r · 12/02/2018 19:52

I don't mind the sound of it, reminds me of Ted, Ned, Fred. It's quite out there. I don't like the association with violence though which it has a bit for me, for the same reason I'm not so keen on the name Mars.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 12/02/2018 19:38

I love Redmond (Red).

Backenette · 12/02/2018 19:32

I quite like it. I know one (short for Reduan.)

MiniMaxi · 12/02/2018 19:30

I know a Red! Short for Frederick.

Actually I also know an adult Red but he's Moroccan so not sure if it's short for something else.

I like it.

Trialsmum · 12/02/2018 18:43

It’s pretty cool actually isn’t it. He’d have to grow up to be something cool... like a snowboarder...

yikesanotherbooboo · 12/02/2018 18:37

As far as rakish is concerned I wasn't meaning anything predatory

yikesanotherbooboo · 12/02/2018 18:35

I think in this context it is good! I put Rory in the same category.

Charismam · 12/02/2018 18:23

is it good or bad to be rakish!?

Petalflowers · 12/02/2018 18:21

Ironically, Redmond, the US snowboarder has the sirname Gerard. I iniatially thought they were calling him by his sirname and his first name was Gerald.

yikesanotherbooboo · 12/02/2018 06:54

I knew a Redmond , known as Reddy ; I always thought it sounded a bit rakish.

pipilangstrumpf · 12/02/2018 06:37

What if he has red hair?

Sophisticatedsarcasm · 12/02/2018 06:34

I saw this guy too 😂 yeah I was a bit curious about his name, although it’s nit the first time I’ve heard red it’s the first time ive heard redmond 😊 I kinda like it 👍

MammieBear · 12/02/2018 06:33

Redmond?... Unusual but wouldn't look too out of place today, on the upside he'd stand out in his class.

I know a Red. Female though not male.

llangennith · 12/02/2018 01:03

Red is not a name, it’s a colour.

SavageBeauty73 · 12/02/2018 00:43

I like it.

I'm so disappointed I didn't call my son's Red and Green as I'm called Amber 😂😂😂

Cavender · 12/02/2018 00:36

It would be a strange name unless the baby had red hair I think.
