Oh wait, Kier is actually Keir? Well I'm stumped then.

DiegoMadonna · 10/02/2018 00:07

Kiera.

Because it's like the boys names Kier and Kieran.

I would pronounce Keira as K-ay-ruh. That might be the influence of my knowledge of languages that are actually pronounced logically, though.

SuperBeagle · 10/02/2018 00:05

Anglicised mis-spellings of Celtic names are chavvy.

Making the assumption that Kiera and Keira are only used in Anglo countries, which is simply incorrect.

Camberleeee · 10/02/2018 00:03

It’s the feminine form of Keir. Not the anglicised version of Ciara.

RavenWings · 09/02/2018 23:58

Ciara is far better than those options.

THe “ei” spelling is far more popular.

Keira is the female version of the name Keir.

Keira knightly has caused big problems for many Keira’s because in an interview she said her name was a spelling mistake - that was the headline I believe. What actually happened is that she was supposed to be named after an ice skater who’s name was spelt Kiera, but her dad spelt it Keira, which is also a correct spelling.

The article has really bothered me as I’ve had people who read the headline say to me “do you know you spelled your daughters name wrong?” Erm, no I didn’t.

SuperBeagle · 09/02/2018 23:40

I think Keira Knightly was Kiera but in America they pronounced it incorrectly so she changed the spelling. Might have made that up though!!

Nope, her parents "misspelt" it on her birth certificate.

blaaake · 09/02/2018 23:37

Keira

Linnet · 09/02/2018 23:36

Ciara is the Irish spelling, Kira is a Persian spelling, both pronounced Keera

BikeRunSki · 09/02/2018 23:35

I only know people called Kiera (or Kieran) - I always thought that Keira, as in Knightley, was a misspelling.

calmandbright · 09/02/2018 23:34

Keira or Ciara

Peachsploosh · 09/02/2018 23:33

Ciara is the original spelling, dating back centuries. I have a Ciara (Irish dh but living in England). She has to spell her name to people. Most assume it’s with a K. Slightly annoying but no regrets. Lovely name.

SuperBeagle · 09/02/2018 23:32

I think the traditional spelling is Kiera (I'm sure someone will jump on me to tell me Ciara is the traditional spelling - don't bother, I'm aware), but Keira is more popular.

I would spell it Keira for that reason.

Ciara would be mispronounced constantly where I live. I know one and she was constantly called "see-ah-rah" and "kee-ah-rah".

Loveache · 09/02/2018 23:26

Ciara. Pronounced keer-a. It's the girls' version of Ciaran, irish name.

Please don't give your child a name and then mispronounce and/or misspell it!

gingercat02 · 09/02/2018 23:26

Ciara is pronounced keera if that's what you're after. That's the traditional Irish spelling. There are lots of anglised versions

DropZoneOne · 09/02/2018 23:25

I assumed Ciara was same pronunciation as the Italian Chiara, rather than Keira. Obviously I know now that it's not!

starzig · 09/02/2018 23:25

Ciara

afreshnewname · 09/02/2018 23:20

I say sierra for ciara

I know a Kira and a Keira both pronounced the same

Flywheel · 09/02/2018 23:19

You're saying it wrong tarriance

LivLemler · 09/02/2018 23:17

Ciara (but I'm Irish and that's the Irish spelling, Scottish may be different).

Have a feeling I read that the actress' parents spelled her name wrong, but I might be misremembering that.

Linnet · 09/02/2018 23:15

I would spell or Kira or Ciara, no e.

Greylilypad · 09/02/2018 23:14

Ciara is not pronounced Kee-ah-ra
