We both like Thomas.

But it doesn't really work with our surname... And we seem have really different tastes in girl's names.

I'd be really grateful for suggestions / advice.

Sebastian really is nice :)

Adam is nice but a bit too biblical / rib-y imo.

My English/German compatible boy's name (I went out with a German speaker for a bit) was going to be Adam.

Tobias? Stefan? Lukas? Christian?

I probably wouldn't got for a very similar first name and surname but then there's William Carlos Williams - might it work better with another name in between?

floriad · 10/02/2018 17:00

duckling

It's not my favourite name. But it's the only name we both like... But I feel like I'm slowly starting to dislike it (maybe because OH is a bit inflexible / says that it we need to compromise but doesn't seem to be willing to genuinely consider compromising...?)

pipi

I really like the name but I see where you're coming from.

pipilangstrumpf · 10/02/2018 15:32

Yes, to hector. That would put me off.

duckling84 · 10/02/2018 13:09

I know a boy who's first name and surname are the same, like Andrew Andrews, but I different name. Lovely kid, and once your past the "really? Your parents liked their surnames so much they used it for a first name too" when you first hear it, you don't even notice or think twice

Go with Thomas if you both love it.

floriad · 10/02/2018 13:04

"hectoring" or the meaning of the name?

Felix is fine but it's a bit too fashionable imo.

OP posts:
CormoranStrike · 10/02/2018 09:03

What about Felix?

pipilangstrumpf · 09/02/2018 22:30

The meaning of hector would put me off

floriad · 09/02/2018 17:49

Spotty

I like it as well :)

I currently like Hector, Thomas, Frank, Emil, Francesco, Helena, Elena, Francesca, Alma, Leona and Selma.

DH says he might be ok with Hector and Frank but we still don't agree on any girl's names...

Anyhow. Thanks :)!

SpottyBrolly · 09/02/2018 13:57

Hector is lovely.

floriad · 09/02/2018 13:19

Etta is lovely but Greta doesn't feel right...

Hector really is lovely. I agree :)

Smile such a fab name. Once we found that, we couldn't see beyond it.

Mjnhb · 09/02/2018 08:44

Greta known as Etta.

cycling

Is Effie short for something?

It sounds cute but we can't use a nickname.

floriad · 09/02/2018 08:41

ghostbusters
I honestly love Hectors.

Seriously. I have to write my OH and ask him about it right now.

David

I agree. Frank could be a standalone.

And OH can easily pronounce it (unlike Francesco. But seeing as he can pronounce Francesca.... I'm taking that argument with a few grains of salt Wink I think he's just trying to be nice about the name of my favourite granduncle...)

So...

Thomas ... "Thomas"
Hector ... "Thomas"
Frank ... "Thomas"

ghostbusters · 09/02/2018 07:45

Hector? I have a Hector and he's the only one I know.

CyclingFanGirl · 09/02/2018 06:47

Effi?

Or the Scottish spelling Effie

floriad · 08/02/2018 20:15

Thomas Florian / Claudio / Frank.... Thompson?

no

lucky you. It's such a gorgous name imo!

OP posts:
DavidPuddy · 08/02/2018 20:13

I don't see why you couldn't just have Frank?

But, regarding Francis, my experience is that Germans only know it as a male and not a female name.

Cockmagic · 08/02/2018 20:07

Thomas Thompson?
Please no!

nobutreally · 08/02/2018 20:05

No, me neither, although my ds gets it as a nickname (he's a Thomas!) wombles.wikia.com/wiki/Tobermory

floriad · 08/02/2018 20:04

Tobermory

I've been to Tobermory, I remember Mull as a nice Island. But I've honestly never heard / seen it as a given name ;)

Alexander and Frederik are nice but they sound harsh to me personally.
