Emmy and Immy - ridiculous?!

Dd1 has the nickname Immy. We love a name for Dd2 due in 2 weeks that would only have the nickname Emmy. There's no other name we like, but do the two together sound ridiculous?! Hoping you say otherwise but I don't think you will!

They sound silly together.

But you don't have to call DD2 Emmy as a nickname. If it's Emily, she may just want to be Emily or Em, or even Milly.

Why would you pick a name that you say is a mouthful? Just pick a name you love without having to use an abbreviation and if you must abbreviate, keep it to 'Em' or something else.

Ahh just go for it! I think they're really cute together!

I knew a lady who called her daughter Emma and she's Hebrew and their word for Mum sounds like Eema (like Emma but with a long ee sound) and it was so cute!!

It's okay to get opinions but in the end.. Go with what you like because there will always be people who disagree... I also know brothers called Ash and Ish!

And there are triplets on Instagram called Niya, Nilah and Nayla (something like that) which I think is super cute!!

If the long name is emmeline could she have Lina instead as nn? It em ir Emma?
I can see why others are saying don't do it but wouldn't bother me too much. Imogen could be Mog too. Nicknames change through life

She might just get Em, not Emmy. I don't think it's that big a deal. I do know siblings with rhyming short forms of their names.

If it's the only name you love go for it, they are not ridiculous together in my opinion they are individuals who will rarely say their name's together, it will only be you two as parents and even then you'll probably say their given names. Go for it. It's hard enough finding names you both agree and love without the added stress.

A friend of mine has two daughters with very similar names think Millie and Tilly (slightly different)!

Once the name is out there no one cares then x

It's a bit weird but it does seem to happen. Is there no other nickname the Emmie name? So Emmaline become Lina or something?

They’re going to live together for many years as children. And the OP’s going to be the one stuck calling ‘immmmmyyy’ ‘emmmmmy’, and getting answered by the wrong child.

I know a family where the 2 siblings' names rhyme (their full names though, so maybe a bit different). To be honest I do think it's a bit odd. My DP can never remember which is which!

It's fine OP. They are not going to be together in life all the time and you're actually giving them actual names as well. Just go for it and don't worry.

Thanks all! Yes Dd1 known by everyone as Immy and Dd2 would be too much of a mouthful to use full name and that's the only nickname I like. Interesting that there's a few posters who think it'd be ok though!

No it's fine, they will grow up and not live with each other.
Me and my sibling have rhyming nicknames and it was never mentioned. Think Hil and Phil.

But they’re nicknames so who cares! If you like the full names but don’t like the potential nickname, introduce another one early on and make it stick. I don’t think Immy and Emmy sound ridiculous anyway

I have an Emilia nn Emmy and Imogen was on the list for DD2, but we realised the Immy potential (likelihood!), so crossed it off.

I couldn't have an Emmy and Immy. It's just too naff.
