Hello everyone!
Me and my partner are expecting our first baby in May, a baby boy.
My parter is completely sold on the name Rohan and I really don’t like it :( interested in your opinions and whether you think it’s more important that we both enjoy the name we pick.

I wanted Rohan for a boy. Firstly it means red haired boy. Which me and husband and all kids are ginger. And secondly we love Lord of the rings. If you are not 100% on a name don't use it hun. My sister did for her first daughter. Just went with what her partner wanted. Changed her mind 4 weeks after she was born and changed her name by deed poll.

I know 2 Rohans - both white british. Quite like it but prefer rowan. Also know 3 Jonah's! I would have liked Jonah but dp vetoed Sad

The only Rohan I know of is a girl.

There is a Rohan in my sons class, his fathers Indian so I always thought it had Indian origins. I think it's lovely

I'd prefer Jonah to Rohan in any case.
I love the Ronan suggestion!

Rohan - very common where I am, huge Asian community. Jonah much less used.

I love Rohan. I’ve only ever heard it in boys of South Asian origin - think if you’re not of that background people might find it a bit unusual. I really like Jonah too!

Agree with pps though - you really need to both be happy with the name.

IME Rohan isn’t a ‘strong’ bloke.

Doesn’t mean he isn’t a nice bloke but strong isn’t the adjective I’d use.

I’ve only known one Jonah and he was more of a sporty, strong ‘lad’.

I don't think either are 'strong' tbh. Both quite soft sounding but nice names.

If you're happier with Jonah, go with that.

I agree we both need to like it. The other name we have is Jonah - what do people think is stronger ?

Either way, you both need to like the name. Could you compromise on it as a middle name?

It's a nice name, I like it personally. But you both need to find one you both like imo. You don't want to spend the rest of your life calling your child by a name you really dislike.

My DH and I went for months disagreeing with each other's name choices, but we agreed that we both had to like it otherwise we'd resent each other (So no so-called 'compromises' such as I name it if it's a girl, he names it if it's a boy we drawn up).

We didn't agree on a name until 3 days before DS was born.

Could you use Rohan as a middle name?

I really wouldn't force yourself to like it. We like what we like - I have a very strong dislike of the name Matilda for example, even though it's adored on here.

I love it. I know a 5 year old Rohan. Very strong name.
