What are your opinions on the name Elaya Mae please?
(Pronounced El-ay-ah)

I love it but just interested how other people see it

Thanks! Smile

People will pronounce it as either 'a liar' or 'a layer', I think.

Fekko · 01/02/2018 17:06

Just made me think of elona gay. Then I got the time in my head.

GlennRheeismyfavourite · 01/02/2018 17:03

Love Elaya - could take or leave Mae (I'd spell in May as well!!)

diddy92 · 01/02/2018 16:43

Thank you for your responses everyone! I had heard the name Elaya in a Youtube baby name video

I really love Elaya, but I may change Mae Smile Thanks for your feedback!! Smile

I don’t like either name. Elaya comes across as made up.

creamcheeseandlox · 01/02/2018 15:36

I don't like the mae part as someone else said it's so over done and common.

BakedBeans47 · 01/02/2018 15:34

It’s ok but a bit many vowels.

Also I remember shops called Elena Mae from when I was a kid so it reminds me a bit of that. I’m old though ;)

strugglingtodomybest · 01/02/2018 15:30

It's a Native American name apparently. I think it sounds nice OP, just not themed with Mae.

Annabelle4 · 01/02/2018 13:31

If it's pronounced El-ee-a, I think it sounds nice.
It's just the way it appears when written down that I don't like.

TatianaLarina · 01/02/2018 13:08

Very chavvy made up name.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 01/02/2018 12:49

Elaya looks made up to me. Not sure if it is though! May is so much better than Mae imo.

saritah · 01/02/2018 11:17

Not keen on Mae or the spelling – looks made up. How about Alaia?

kaytee87 · 31/01/2018 19:59

Is elaya a real name? Really don't like Mae as a middle name.

You might like;

Alicia
Aliya
Elise
Ellie

helpmum2003 · 31/01/2018 16:11

Elaya sounds like a made up name and your dd would always have to spell it out. Sorry I don't like it.

MrsTerryPratchett · 31/01/2018 16:00

Too many 'a's.

Annabelle4 · 31/01/2018 15:40

Dreadful, sorry

Alison100199 · 31/01/2018 15:38

Elaya is ok but with Mae it just brings up a picture of a woman with a fag hanging out of her mouth, wearing a tracksuit yelling Elaya-Maeeeeeee across the supermarket.

MidnightVelvetthe7th · 31/01/2018 15:30

I don't like it, sorry.

Not heard the name Elaya before, my first preconception is that its yoonique. I googled it & the first hit is a boy's name baby site section, second hit is in the girl's section but there's no name meaning or other info. So I don't know whether its made up or an established but underused name.

Mae would be a no for me, it seems to be the middle name of every girl aged between 3-6 round here along with Rae.

daisypond · 31/01/2018 15:29

I don't think Elaya Maya rhymes. I'd pronounce Maya M-eye-uh. I know two and they're both pronounced like this. I've never heard of Elaya, though, so it does seem made up to me. Is it from a non-western culture? How about Alaya? Or Alaia?

Antonia87 · 31/01/2018 15:28

I'm sorry but I'm still having difficulty with pronouncing it? Is is Isla? Or Aaliyah / Aleah. If i'm having difficulty then others will too. Sorry!

BubblesBuddy · 31/01/2018 15:19

You couldn’t have Elaya Maya though! It rhymes.

I know you are not proposing to use the second name but Elaya Mae still doesn’t really trip off the tongue.

My DDs have names they have to spell to people but only because people don’t know the names because they are fairly unusual. There is a big plus in being different though.

I think I might use Elaya with a longer second name to sound chic rather than cute. Elaya Francesca, Elaya Harriet, Elaya Christabel, Elaya Annabelle etc. You get the idea.

laramara · 31/01/2018 15:14

Honesty, I'm sorry but Elaya just seems terribly made up and I feel sure you would forever be correcting pronunciation spelling, I know it sounds pretty but I'm sure you could find another name starting with El.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 31/01/2018 15:05

It's gorgeous

MammieBear · 31/01/2018 14:49

It's ok... how about Alana or Arielle? and for alternative middle, how about Maya? Or Maisie? At the end of the day it's your choice go with the names you love and feel comfortable saying and you can picture your child growing up withSmile.

MikeUniformMike · 31/01/2018 14:41

Elaya - Nice but there are so many El names out there, and I think it might end up being confusing to tell people how it's spelt or said.

Mae is hideous sorry. May is better but it is overused as a middle name.
