I have a similar name... please don’t do it! I’ve been rejected for jobs because of my name alone and I’ve had to start using my middle name.

I love Amethyst! Unfortunately it's on my list of names I love, but wouldn't really use. If you're brave enough, do it!

Amaryllis might appeal more to you, Mrs. Personally I think it's very flouncy but it definitely avoids the thyst!

I love the Damaris suggestion.

I love the gemstone, but I don't think it works as a name. It's a bit, I don't know, clunky. I wouldn't like to be called Amethyst.

Don’t like it. It’s a bit fussy for me, and I agree that it would be embarrassing/a pain to have to introduce yourself as that.

I struggle a bit with the ‘th’ then ‘st’ sounds but I like the association and think it sounds nice.

Other ideas to consider -

Damaris - similar-ish sound, also unusual
Peridot - pretty gemstone name
Magenta - going with the purple theme and turning it pink...

I think it's vile, but if your DD is going to be an actress/artist/singer/musician then great....not so great if she wants to work in an industry where a certain level of professionalism and conformity is required.

Don't like it. Not really a "name". A pain to spell and doesn't flow well. I would hate to have such a youneeq name.

Princess Amy in 'The ordinary princess' is an amethyst!

I bloody love that book. Nice name too. Prefer Amy to misty though.

Personally on an everyday practical level it doesnt really roll of the tongue very well and would be a complete pain the anyone with a speech impediment.

I think it's a name that might be hard to live with - she might end up shortening it to Amy, which is almost its poplar opposite in blandness.

When I was naming mine, I used to say out loud "Hello, I'm X" and imagine introducing myself to people. If it made me wince, I ditched it I matter how much I liked the idea of the name.

Would you like to say "Hello, I'm Amethyst"?

I would not personally want to be called Amethyst.

Or Emerald. Or Saphhire.

The stones are pretty but cold and hard. That doesn’t seem like a good association to me.
